Brent Belnap

1942 ~ 2018

Robert Brent Belnap, 75, passed away surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 in Ogden, UT.  He was born on July 10, 1942, in Ogden, to Robert Volney Belnap and Helen Mae Faddis. Brent married his sweetheart, Lorna Jane Perkins, on September 4, 1968, in the Salt Lake Temple.

He graduated from Ogden High School where he was a standout multi-sport athlete, winning the State Football Championship in 1958. He spent the summers lifeguarding and giving golf lessons at Patio Springs Country Club. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a minor in Physical Education from Weber State College where he played on the baseball team and enjoyed being a member of the Excelsior fraternity.  He also earned an Associates in Electronics which he put to good use always fixing and taking care of things for everyone. He was offered a spot on the Pittsburgh Pirates farm team which he turned down to finish schooling and went on to meet his sweetheart at a school stomp.

Brent was a school teacher in the Ogden School District for 30 years before retiring, during which time he coached football, baseball, basketball, cross country and swimming. He was always either coaching his kids in little league, coaching high school teams or watching sports of any kind.  He positively influenced the lives of many through his coaching. He served in the United States Air Force Reserves for six years.

Brent was an avid outdoorsman, always hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He was a member of the Ogden Pineview Yacht Club and spent his summers boating or in the High Uintas. He liked to putter around in the garage and spend time tying flies.  He tried every sport from archery to cross country skiing and everything in between. He especially loved golfing. He was a natural athlete and successful at them all. Brent enjoyed taking his grandkids on Ranger rides. He always loved a good sports analogy to teach a truth.

Brent was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Stake Athletic Director many times.  His family was everything to him. He spent all his time with his wife, kids and grandkids.  They were his pride and joy. The family motto was ‘we will always stick together.’ He was a great example of determination, strength and courage.  In the end he advised his family to ‘keep it simple.’

Brent is survived by his wife, Lorna; their five children, Brighton (Chris) Jorgensen; Jennifer (Douglas) Evans; Dax (Monica) Belnap; Camber (Cory) Wallberg; and Cord (Adelle) Belnap; his sisters, Diane (Dave) Gidley and Marty (Clyde) Dillon; and 13 grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, and his grandson, Kaylen Dax.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd, Ogden.  Family will meet with friends on Monday from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.  Interment, Ogden Cemetery.
