Brent Carling

April 1, 1961 — February 13, 2021

Brent Ray Carling

LAYTON - Brent Ray Carling, age 59, passed away early in the morning of February 13, 2021.  Brent was a very fun and loving person and will be missed by many. He was born on April 1, 1961 in Tremonton, Utah to Ray and Beverly Carling as the oldest of 6 children.  He spent his childhood years in Garland, Utah before his parents moved the family to North Ogden.  He graduated from Weber High School in 1979.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Weber State University in Logistics Management and later pursued a Master’s of Business Administration from Utah State University.

He met his sweetheart, Angela Silotti, during college, proposed to her on his birthday and later married her for time and all eternity on June 14, 1985 in the Salt Lake Temple. Brent and Angie raised their family of four children in West Layton.  Angie passed away unexpectedly in early 2014. In the years since her passing, Brent enjoyed spending time with his four kids, two daughters-in-law and four grandkids.  He also enjoyed spending time with Cindy Brown, his Fiancé, and her family.

Brent was loved by many people.  He had an uncanny ability to remember even the smallest of details of those he interacted with.  He was always “connecting the dots” and everyone who crossed paths with him felt his love and sense of humor.  Brent enjoyed being in the service of family, friends, and neighbors. He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he has served in many capacities in the Bishopric, High Council, Young Men’s and Scouting.  He served as a full-time missionary in the Anchorage Alaska Mission from 1980-1982. Brent has worked as a Contract Officer for the Department of Defense at Hill Air Force Base for the past 12 years, after transitioning from 20 years working in the explosives industry as a logistics/fleet manager.

His greatest honor and privilege was being a husband and father.  He loved his family very much, and was the best coach, training partner, and cheerleader any of them could ask for. He enjoyed supporting his family in all their endeavors whether performances, soccer games, or any other activity they set out to accomplish. He liked to spend his time exercising, going on runs and bike rides, skiing, or taking his motorcycle out for a spin. He would take time out of his day to support whoever needed help, especially his children, siblings, nieces and nephews, or any person that he could think of that could use a hand.

Brent had a great capacity to love, and to put everyone else’s needs above his own. He was always the first to sacrifice what he wanted so that those he loved could have what they needed. He could talk to anybody, and everybody could talk to him. He always had a pun up his sleeve, and would usually tell more than his fair share. He was as quick on the draw with his poems or scripture references as he was with his dad-jokes. His lighthearted nature was contagious, and everyone loved being around him with his sense of humor.

Brent is survived by his mother Beverly Carling, and his four kids; Brad (Taneal, Violet and Claire), Alysha, Cory (Kailey, Sophie and Cohen), and ShayLynn, as well as Cindy Brown and her children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Lynn (Carol) Carling, and his three sisters; Cathy (Brian) Wilhelmsen, Julie (Rick) DeGraw, and Diane (Jared) Garfield. He was preceded in death by his wife, Angela Silotti Carling, his father, Ray Carling, his brother Paul Carling and his in-laws Jack and Joyce Silotti.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 20th at 11 a.m. at the Layton Creekside Stake Center, 1480 West Phillips, Layton.  Friends and family may visit Brent’s family on Friday the 19th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the services.  Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
