Brent Robert Dixon

November 2, 1952 ~ July 14, 2014

On the morning of July 14, 2014, Brent Dixon had his day planned. He left home on his Harley, headed to work at Home Depot and then off to a ball game. His routine was interrupted when a tragic motorcycle accident took our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle “big fish”, coach, and friend...much too soon.

Dad was born November 2, 1952 to Bob and Jennie Dixon. He was raised in South Ogden and graduated from Bonneville High School in 1971 where his legacy began as a standout football player. He was and will always be a proud Laker. Not by coincidence, the accident that took his life was on Laker Way.  Brent was his grandkids biggest fan and on Saturday’s he was known to frequently change his game shirts.  While in school he met and fell in love with our mom and his forever sweetheart, Jolene King. They were married in the Ogden LDS Temple on October 12, 1972. They were blessed with 4 sons who were dad's pride and joy.  Robbie, Troy, James, and Kurtis became his best friends and teammates. Sports were a main theme in our home.  Dad was an intense coach who loved all his players and wanted them to do their best.  He was more excited for the games than maybe his boys were.  He would fire them up with his pre-game speeches, and always be there to cheer them on.  For three years Dennis Harris lived in our home and was included in our dad's big heart.

Dad was a hard worker and raised his sons to be the same; always, having just a 10 minute job for them to do.  In reality the job lasted at least 30 minutes or more! Dad worked as an appliance salesman for close to 40 years. He was a proud member of the “Orange” team and loved his job and friends at Home Depot.  He also enjoyed helping at SEI /Dixon Homes in his spare time.

Dad was a ray of sunshine. He loved to tease, joke, and heckle his family and friends. He also loved to sing “Welcome, Welcome, Sabbath Morning” early Sunday mornings to get the boy's out of bed for church. He made our home the place to be, just don't call after 8 PM! He would be in bed.  However he was always awake and cheerfully available after 4 AM!

Dad loved to go fishing, first as a boy with his father, grandpa, and uncles; later with his own boys and grandchildren. Most recently, dad enjoyed his Friday trips to East Canyon with friend and high school football teammate Rick Strebel. Their Friday morning fishing trips, smack talk, and lunch paid for by the person who caught the least amount of fish were one of the highlights of dad's week.

Dad was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He quietly served others, seeking no recognition or reward. As proud as he was of the boy's athletic accomplishments, he was most proud of each of their 2 year missionary service.

Family was dad's highest priority. As the boy's each married, he often joked about adjusting to daughters-in-law. He loved them dearly each were his “favorite” - Montay, Andrea, Jodi and Mindi. Along came 16 grandchildren who made dad very happy. Dad was always willing to help in any way he could, even taking the girls to dance. He would wait by his cell phone hoping someone needed him. Dad's legacy will live on in the live's of his grandchildren who have learned the love of family and sports from him.

Brent is survived by his wife, Jolene of Washington Terrace; sons, Robert and Montay of Twin Falls Idaho; Troy and Andrea of Roy; James and Jodi of Washington Terrace; and Kurtis and Mindi of South Ogden.  Dad has a sister, Linda (Kent) Boekweg; and a brother, Scott (Julie) Dixon whom he loved very much. Also mom's family, Grandma King who adored dad; and her siblings, Sandy (Vern) Coombs; and Jim (Kathy) King. Dad also loved to humor his nieces and nephews.

Brent was welcomed into heaven by his parents, Robert and Jennie Zito Dixon; father in law, Lloyd King; nephews, Ben Dixon and Jared Hennefer; and a close uncle and friend Larry Dixon.

Dad is now on a new adventure, just waiting for us to be an eternal family. We love you...till we meet again!

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Washington Terrace 9 ^th Ward, 125 East 5350 South.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
