David Hill

March 12, 1956 — January 11, 2019

“Well done thy good and faithful servant”

David Thornley Hill, age 62, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 11, 2019. He returned home to his Heavenly Father, after a three year battle with brain cancer.

He was born on March 12, 1956 in Ogden, Utah to Leonard Webster Hill and Texie Jayne Thornley Hill. He was raised in West Kaysville, working alongside his father on the family farm. It was there that he learned how to work hard and what it meant to be an honest, good man. From his mother, he learned to serve and love the Lord. Dave often stated that he had lived the perfect life.

He graduated from Davis High School in 1974. His years there were filled with many great memories and friendships that continued to be an important part of his life until this day. He loved sports and participated in football, baseball and basketball. His family was often reminded, that as quarterback, “He was almost a state champ!” He spoke often of his love and respect for the coaches that taught him not only about sports, but about life.

After high school, he attended Utah State University for his undergraduate education. It was at this time that he decided to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called serve in the Korea Pusan Mission. He cherished his time in Korea and had a very special love for his mission president, President Han. He served in various capacities in the church through the remainder of his life where he developed a love for the people he served, especially the youth. He remained faithful to the very end of his mortal life.

Dave’s love for horses and the example of his older brother, led him to pursue further education in veterinary medicine. He graduated in 1984 from Universidad de Ciudad Juarez Veterinario Zootecnista and then joined his brother Kevin at Kayscreek Veterinary Clinic. He practiced in Layton, Utah for 34 years. He was well respected and loved by many who went to him during that time. Dave was the true cowboy. Horses were not only his livelihood but his passion. He loved to be on horseback but loved even more to team rope competitively with his close friends.

In 1984, Dave met Kim Anderton on a blind date that changed both their lives forever. After a very short courtship, they were married on December 20, 1984 in the Salt Lake Temple. Dave had the upmost respect and love for Kim. Many prayed for a miracle during the course of his cancer treatment, but Dave simply told Kim, “I have my miracle and it is you.”

They raised three amazing children, which were the center of his life: Kallie, Jace and Jordan.  Dave taught them the importance of education, hard work, and having faith in and following the Lord Jesus Christ. His children learned daily at his feet through love and example.

Just when Dave thought his life could not get any better, along came the most amazing gifts from God, his grandchildren, Emmaline and Claira. These two little girls were his pride and joy and brought so much love and comfort as his health declined.

Dave was a simple man and asked for little, but in the end he got it all.

Dave is survived by his sweetheart, Kim Hill, of Kaysville; three children, Kallie Hill of Kaysville; Jace Hill {Krystal} of Kaysville and Jordan Hill of Kaysville; two grandchildren, Emmaline Hill and Claira Hill, mother, Texie Hill of Kaysville; sisters, Jayne Barkdull (Brice) of Kaysville, Heidi Hill of Kaysville; brother, Kevin Hill (LeRae) of Kaysville

He is preceded in death by his father, Leonard W Hill and his father and mother-in-law, Donald and Afton Anderton.
