Don LaVerne Smith

January 11, 1931 ~ March 5, 2015

Don LaVerne Smith, 84, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 5, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 11, 1931 at the home of his parents, Joseph Leon and Pearl Amelia Mikesell Smith in Porterville Utah.

Don proudly served his country for over 20 years in two branches of the military. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars and finally retired after 11 more years of civil service at HAFB. He had a love and passion for vintage cars and had a vast collection of 1:18 scale model cars. For over 40 years you could find Don working tirelessly to beautify his yard and home.

After forty years of being a bachelor, he finally found his true love and married Lula Belle (Sam) Coover on May 22, 1971 in Iowa City, Iowa. They were, later, blessed with two beautiful daughters.

Don is survived by his wife, Lula Belle; daughters, Rebecca Kim (Doug) Cox, Rachel Kay (Jason) Barney; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.

Friends may visit with family on Tuesday March 10, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 2 p.m. at South Morgan Cemetery.
