Donna Ruth Nielsen Sorenson

November 6, 1926 ~ May 11, 2017

Passed away on May 11, 2017 of natural causes.  Donna was born on November 6, 1926 in Providence, Utah, a daughter of Ether L. and Constance Bullock Nielsen.  Her father passed away when she was a teenager.  This was a great loss in her life.  She was educated in Hyrum, Utah, at South Cache High School, graduating with the class of 1945.  She received a BS degree from Utah State University in 1949.

Her marriage to Hoyle L. Sorenson was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.  They are the parents of four sons.

She worked at the Defense Depot of Ogden, Utah, and at the Forestry School in Logan as a secretary, typist.

Donna retired from the teaching profession.  As she moved with her Forest Service husband, she taught in five districts, at the following schools: Jackson Jr. High, Bryant Jr. High in Salt Lake City, Logan Jr. High School, Wayne High School, Manila High School, Richfield High School, and Highland Jr. High School in Ogden.  She loved and appreciated the many wonderful students who touched her life.

Donnas’ greatest joy was family.  She loved raising her four boys, always active in their lives.  Her grandchildren were the light of her life.

As a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she currently resided in the Forest Green Ward, Weber Heights Stake.  She served in many church positions during her lifetime including Stake Primary President, member of the Stake Primary and Relief Society Boards, Presidency of the Young Women’s, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, Relief Society Presidency and Lesson Leader, Primary in-service leader, and others.   She had a strong testimony of the gospel and showed her love of the Savior daily.

She was privileged to travel extensively and learn of cultures and people including Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Japan, Fiji, Tahiti, and many other locations in the South Pacific via cruise ship.  She was a member of Arts International and Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

Survivors include her husband, Hoyle L. Sorensen; four sons, Craig H. (Ramona) Sorenson, Escalante, Utah; Brian K. Sorenson, Delta, Colorado; Scott M. (Mary) Sorenson, Lyman, Utah; and Kevin L. Sorenson, South Ogden, Utah; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchild; one brother and one sister, Standley Nielsen and Marian Reese.  Preceded in death by parents, and brothers, Lloyd Nielsen and Elwood Nielsen.

The family would like to thank the Gardens Assisted Living Center for their love and care of Donna.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Forest Green Ward,  1401 Country Hills Dr.  Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
