July 17, 1934 ~ February 1, 2016

Dr. Ralph Blaine Foley, 81, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday, February 1, 2016, following a prolonged struggle with declining health. Ralph was born on July 17, 1934 to Charles and Edna Foley in Ogden, Utah.  He attended Ogden City schools, graduating from Ogden High School in 1952.  Ralph married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Killpack, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1954.  He attended Weber College and the University of Utah, graduating in 1957.  Ralph attended Medical School at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, graduating in 1961.  He completed his General Surgery Residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he was selected to serve as Chief Surgical Resident.  He completed his surgical training in 1966.

Following his training, Ralph served at the US Army 98th General Hospital in Nurnberg, Germany for three years, earning the rank of Major.  During their time in Germany, the family traveled extensively throughout Europe, developing a lifelong love for travel.

In 1969, he and his family returned to Ogden, Utah, where he established his surgical practice, ultimately serving in the Ogden community for more than 30 years.  Ralph loved serving his patients.  Part of his practice involved providing surgical care for UP Railroad patients.  He loved his time with his patients at the Railroad Clinic, where he developed lifelong friendships.

Ralph was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a variety of callings, including District President (Germany), Elder’s Quorum President, Sunday School President, and his favorite calling as Scout Master.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce; and their eight children, Kathy (Dave) Rowley, Craig (Kris) Foley, Leslie (Dwight) Anjewierden, Holly (Darin) Carver, Matthew Foley, Lisa (Mark) Stokes, Jodi (Robert) Dayton, Jana (Jared) Parker; 24 grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Ralph loved traveling, playing tennis, and spending time with his family, especially houseboat trips to Lake Powell and Christmas Eve.

Ralph was proud that his love of medicine was passed on to his children as evidenced by seven of his children following him into the medical profession.
