Hannah Rosa Goetz Wright
On Wednesday, May 18, 2016 in Layton, Utah, Hannah, loving grandmother, mother and eternal companion, peacefully took the final steps of her earthly journey, surrounded by her adoring family.
Hannah had many great experiences. She was born in Switzerland on March 17, 1932. At the age of 17, she left her native country with her sister and settled in this new and beautiful land known as “America”. Here she met Don Wright, the love of her life. They were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple. She has four children, 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren that all look to her as a great example of charity, service and love.
She worked as a health care provider for many years at the McKay-Dee Medical Center, where her compassion was freely given. Many have stated that she gave that “little something extra” in her job, to make patients feel more comfortable. It might be holding a child’s hand while having a minor procedure, or taking a stranger into her home from out of state because her husband was recuperating from a car accident. Hannah was always there, for everyone. Her quirky personality was a welcome relief to the everyday work that was so stressful for many she was surrounded by. Being from Switzerland was not always a benefit. When she retold stories she heard at work, she did not always understand subtle “American” humor. This added to her charm and her family’s entertainment.
Whether Hannah was skiing, knitting, sewing, playing the violin or her favorite accordion, she attacked each of these hobbies with enthusiasm.
As her children married and grandchildren came, it would not be unusual to have the van packed with nearly all the grandchildren, to explore her adopted country, in search of adventure. These road trips would discover LDS church historical sites as well as US historical places. Each “vacation” would bring new enlightenment to all that participated. Her biggest challenge was to get all the kids to set up the tent every night, at whatever campground they stayed.
With all the fun Hannah and Don provided for their grandchildren, she would always work the spiritual aspect into their trips as well. Hannah was an active member of the LDS church and served in many callings. She served as a compassionate service leader making many meals seeing that those that were in need received them. She served an LDS mission with her husband in Texas, where her love and spirituality was felt by many.
Wednesday evening, as Hannah’s earthly burdens were lifted, she was greeted by many family and friends that had gone before her. The reunion must be sweet. There is one that undoubtedly looked her in her eyes, lovingly embraced her, and without noise or fanfare, whispered, for her ears only, “Well done.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and brother. She lost two grandsons too early, Benjamin and Jeffrey Cottrell. She is survived by Don, her husband of 64 years, her sister, Ruth (Richard) Hirschi, children: Peter (Rosetta) Wright, Robyn (Marlin) Furse, Sandra (Lanny) Cottrell and Belinda (Lynn) Christensen as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment at Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
Her family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Apple Village Assisted Living Center and Brighton Hospice for their compassionate care.
