Hazel Fowers Moore Heslop
August 3, 1922 ~ June 3, 2014
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Hazel Fowers Moore Heslop, peacefully slipped into eternity on Tuesday, June 3, 2014.
She was born August 3, 1922 in Hooper, Utah to Joseph Oakley Moore and Susan Rae Fowers. She graduated from Utah State University and taught home economics at Box Elder High School.
On June 19, 1946, Hazel married Ervin G. Heslop in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
She taught school until their first child was born, after which she devoted herself to her husband and the rearing of their children. Ervin and Hazel bought the farm next to her childhood home where she was born and lived throughout her life. After her children were in school, she returned to her teaching career. She patiently taught special needs children for many years at Ogden-Weber Education Center, Hooper and Lakeview Elementary schools. She loved to work hard and help others, which she did all of her life.
Hazel was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her life of service in the Church encompassed various teaching and leadership callings including ward and stake Relief Society president. She and Ervin served in the Ogden Temple for many years before and after they completed a full-time mission as family history missionaries in the England Birmingham Mission.
Her posterity includes six children, 33 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of almost 68 years and children, Shanna (Don) Thurman, currently serving in the Alpine German-Speaking Mission; Mary (Mike) Nay, of Hooper; Clair (Joan) Heslop, of Centerville; Melanie (David) Miller, of Kaysville; Jan (Kim) Cragun, of Ephraim; and Vinda (Mark) Preslar, of Porterville; brothers, Arthur (Nola Jean) Moore and Garth (Florence) Moore, sisters-in-law Merlene Moore and Ivy Moore.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Oakley and Gale, sister and brother-in-law Ilene and Blair Dahl, granddaughter Leah Kae Thurman, great-grandson Karson Riggs and great-granddaughter Cloee Miller.
