Helen “LaVoie” Ozmun Quist

November 2, 1931 ~ December 14, 2018

LaVoie Ozmun Quist, Our Lady Fair, born on November 2, 1931, daughter of Elton E. and Velma Leishman Ozmun, passed away from complications of a stroke on December 14, 2018, at age 87.

She was born in Wellsville, Utah, grew up in Ogden, Utah, and graduated from Ogden High School.

LaVoie married S. Ivan Quist on April 12, 1949. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Throughout their 70 years together, Mom’s devotion to Dad was truly the stuff of legend. The Cowboy and The Lady.

She had a great secret, when you give unconditionally, YOU become more. She left her home and heart open to anyone needing a safe shelter from their storms. A delicious meal whether you were hungry or not seemed to appear magically, and suddenly you had a voracious appetite.

Holidays were magic. Because of her we are Believers. The Glitter, and sparkle will continue to get in our hair and on the carpet, only now we won’t rush to tidy up, instead we’ll let a tear of memory slide down our cheek, and in that moment we’ll remember, and hold onto the memories and the sparkles that are past forgetting. We will cherish, our crocheted hankies, ceramics, and paintings rendered by her creative hands. We will miss her fabulous style, impeccable taste, her dazzling jewelry, and the way she lit up a room.

LaVoie has belonged to various organizations throughout the years. She has served faithfully in numerous church callings. It can be said that she truly lived.

She was preceded in death by her sister, LuJean (John) Bouwhuis; brother, Duane (Bev) Ozmun; and grandson, Coleman Quist.

LaVoie is survived by her eternal sweetheart, S.Ivan Quist, Huntsville; sister, Sherral (Steve) Thurgood; five children, Farley (Judy) Quist, Liberty; Debbie (Allen) Melle, Huntsville; Jeanette (Mark) Goodson, Huntsville; Rob (Heather) Quist, Japan; and Jeff (Melissa) Quist, Syracuse; two “adopted” children, Helena (Rich) Carapellatti, Arizona, and Tammy (Rob) Will, Draper.  She has loved to the moon and back 17 grandchildren and their spouses, and 33 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Fran (the best of friends), the Middlefork Ward (for their many acts of service), and the caregivers at Mckay Dee Hospital, and Mt. Ogden Care Center.
