Janet Quebe Lancaster
May 10, 1936 – March 19, 2017
SYRACUSE – Janet Quebe Lancaster passed away peacefully on March 19, 2017 surrounded by her children. She was born May 10, 1936, to Herbert Henry and Hilda Rust Quebe in Robstown, Texas and spent her childhood in Agua Dulce, Texas working on a family farm with her sister.
She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life Curtis N. Lancaster on September 3, 1955, in Robstown, Texas and they shared 59 years together. They moved to Utah in 1959 and raised three children in Brigham City.
She earned a bachelors degree in early childhood education from Utah State University. She later earned her masters degree and taught 1st grade for 22 years in the Box Elder School District.
She was an original member of the First Baptist Church in Brigham City where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She later became a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church in Layton and enjoyed greeting the members every Sunday and participating in the annual Journey to Bethlehem pageant.
She was very active in many fraternal organizations. She was a life member of Corinne Chapter No. 11, Order of the Eastern Star and was Worthy Matron five times. She served as Worthy Grand Matron for the Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star of Utah in 1990. She was a member of Lybia Temple No. 32, Daughters of the Nile; The Social Order of the Beauceant; and Chapter J of Utah P.E.O. She also worked with the youth groups in Job’s Daughters and the DeMolay.
Her passion was cooking, dogs, camping, sewing, and traveling. She enjoyed traveling with her husband all over the world but was the happiest spending her summers at their cabin in Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis. She is survived by her children, Nancy L. Lancaster, Alan D. (Evonne) Lancaster and Steven D. Lancaster; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and her sister, JoAnne Rouse.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful people of Hospice Care of Northern Utah for all their tender care and loving support.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Grand Chapter OES of Utah (Education Fund), 1651 S 2095 W, Woods Cross, UT 84087; or the Children’s Learning Centers for the Scottish Rite of Utah, 650 E South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84102.
