Jay Albert Davis

1935 ~ 2017

Jay Albert Davis, devoted husband, beloved father, cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, and dear friend to many, quietly graduated with honors from mortality in the peace of his own home on Saturday, May 27, 2017.  He was born on June 15, 1935 to James A. Davis and Zola Chugg.  A lifelong citizen of Farr West, Jay worked hard to provide for his family and better his community.  He attended Weber High, Weber College, and graduated from Utah State University.

Jay married his eternal queen Bonnie Lee Bybee for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 5, 1957.

His professional endeavors centered around providing for and spending time with his family.  Among those endeavors he taught Automotive Engineering classes at Weber and Roy High and Weber State University.  He also worked in industrial management and owned a custom tune-up shop.  He was on the Farr West City planning commission and was honored with his wife Bonnie as Grand Marshals in the 2016 Freedom Festival Parade.

Jay was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in many positions including Scout Master, Bishop, member of the High Council, Stake Patriarch, and Home Teacher.  He served a full-time mission in Southern California and later served a mission with his wife in Riverside California where he was affectionately known as the “car czar”.

Jay found great joy in the beauty of God’s creations, especially “on the mountain” in his later years at the family cabin, Red’s Roost.  He loved the outdoors, camping, and photographing nature.  He excelled at woodworking and blessed kids, grandkids and friends with his own creations and helped them construct and create.  Jay’s only regret during his mortal tenure was the impossibility of becoming a fighter pilot and never racing his own Grand Prix down Ogden Canyon – for which his family thanks his abysmal eye sight.  All who love Jay will always remember the deep love and reverence he had for the Savior and His Gospel.  He was a solid example of faith, obedience, humility, and determination.  In his personal history he wrote: “As I look back [over the] years, it is most evident that the hand of the Lord was protecting and guiding me on a continual basis day by day.  His love and foresight is so much greater than ours, if we can only be receptive to His guidance.”

Jay is survived by his wife, Bonnie; sisters, Evelyn (Richard) Gibby and Delsa (Don) Colvin; children, David Davis of Ogden UT, Debbie (Archie) Grindy of Richmond UT, Diane Davis of Farr West UT, Annette (Todd) Erickson of Pleasant View UT, Susan (Michael) Quayle of Reese UT, Michael (Kim) Davis of Blackfoot ID, and Mark Davis of Chase City VA; 28 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marion Brady and Lorraine Smith; and granddaughter, Jenny.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Farr West Stake Center, 2132 West 2700 North.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd.  and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the  church.  Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
