Jerry Lewis Coombs

Kaysville, Utah

Jerry passed away Saturday April 17th 2021. He was born in Ogden, Utah April 8th, 1935 to parents Lavina Shafer and Lewis Coombs.

Jerry graduated from Ogden High School in 1953. He helped in his family market, the Coombs Family Market. Soon after his graduation he joined the Navy, where he was stationed in the Philippines and Japan.

After his return he met his eternal sweetheart Elisabeth M. Bauer at a Saturday night dance at the Ogden Holiday Inn, it was instant love. They married on July 3rd, 1969 in Elko, Nevada, and were later sealed in the LDS Temple.

Jerry enjoyed bowling, and was in a league which won many trophies. He also was a passionate golfer and went to the greens once a week with his friend Bruno and other friends. His family was his true passion and he enjoyed taking them on many trips; including Europe, many trips to Germany, Elisabeth's home Country, and all across the United States. A favorite memory was trips across the United States riding around in an orange Volkswagen bus that broke down all the time. A true testament to the devotion to his family, he supported his children and grandchildren in sports, drama and dance. He supported his son Willy in hockey and a shared interest in cars, son David in soccer, scouting and in his musical endeavors, and his daughter Christina in dance and their love of all animals. His grandson's passions were theatre and sports, to which he never missed the opportunity to attend performances and games. Jerry was quiet, but never said no when his friends and neighbors needed help. He loved to work with his hands and tinkered with everything.

Jerry retired from his service in the Air Force Reserves, working at Hill Air Force Base as an Aircraft Electrician. After retirement he helped run his wife's Deli: Liesel’s European Deli in Layton, Utah. Jerry and Elisabeth spent their retired years volunteering at the base pharmacy, Bountiful Temple and the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.

Jerry was preceded in death by his son Willy and his parents Lewis S. Coombs and Lavina Shafer.

He is survived by his beloved wife Elisabeth, brother Curtis, son David, daughter Christina (Nathaniel), cherished grandsons, Andrew, Brandon, and Oliver, who adored spending time with their "Opa".
