John Marvin Walpole

June 7, 1928 - October 31, 2015

Our courageous and sensitive father, husband, and grandfather passed away Saturday, October 31.  John was born on June 7, 1928 in Centerville, Utah as the third of four children of Ernest and Ivy Walpole.  John worked hard on the family farm with his immediate family and grandparents.  The three Walpole boys enjoyed hunting and many other colorful adventures together.  Growing up during the depression taught John grit and faith.  His angelic younger sister died at age 9 when John was 17; a significant and defining moment that he referenced reverently throughout his life.

John fell in love and married Shirley Jean Field on June 30, 1949.  Together they had four children: Lynda-Jeanne, Robert, William, and Kathleen.  John worked driving trucks and continued his legacy of working hard and playing hard.  The family had many adventures and challenges with never a dull moment.

Later in life John fell in love again and married Virginia Adair, a widow with four children of her own: Todd, Troy, Doug, and Melanie.  John later changed jobs to allow him to spend more time at home.  John and Virginia had a son together, Shawn, whom John referred to as his caboose.

John was talented mechanically and excelled at repairing and restoring automobiles.  He also had his pilot's license and loved to fly.  Nearing the end of his life, John met mounting health challenges with wit and determination.  He reflected that he had been blessed to be part of two wonderful families.  He will be sorely missed by them.  John was easy to love and a loyal and valiant friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Dorothy, and his brothers Floyd and Russell.  His wife, nine children and their spouses (Janet, Barbara, TC, Tammy, Kelly, Katrina, Dave, and Katie), sister-in-law Lugean, many grandchildren, and friends supported him in his final days and mourn his passing.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Bountiful 14th Ward Chapel, 1500 S and 600 E  where friends may visit family from 9:45-10:45 am prior to the services.  Interment will be at the Centerville Cemetery 700 E. 400 S.  Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary.
