Leon Stringham Johnson
LAYTON - Leon Stringham Johnson, 77, passed away April 21, 2015, in his home in Layton, Utah. He was born August 23 rd , 1937 in Holden, Utah, and was the son of Richard Johnson and Verda Day. He married Joyce Ebert September 13, 1963 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
His career included serving in the Air Force Active Duty, Civil Service, and Reserves, as well as being Head Custodian for Valley View Elementary. Throughout his life, he rendered service in the following ways: Providing for family, serving Stake Missions, holding callings in the Young Men’s Program, teaching instructor for First Aid and CPR, and participating in all Scouting Programs from local to council levels. He was an avid Scout Leader and trainer for most of his adult life which earned him the Silver Beaver recognition. He loved spending time in the outdoors, doing yard work, and spending time with his family.
Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Earl and Willis) and two sisters (Elaine and Beth).
Survived by wife, Joyce, and children, Lacinda (Stan) Brown, Vernal; Kevin (Maureen) Johnson, Roy; Shawnda (Roger) Brooks, Clearfield; Randy (Lynnette) Johnson, Santaquin; Jeffrey (Jamille) Johnson, Layton; Craig (Mindy) Johnson, Syracuse; Crista (Brandan) Hall, Clearfield; Erica (Andy)Akin, Layton; 25 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. Other surviving relatives: Three sister-in laws (Beth, Marion, and Viola).
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Layton West Stake Center, 1715 W. 1600 No. Layton. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
