Layton - Lorin R Anderson, 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 30, 2016 surrounded by his four children and spouses. He was born in Benjamin Utah on March 15, 1925 to Rufus Sterling Anderson and Hazel Stewart. He married his high school sweetheart Sarah (Sally) Doreen Bufton on August 19, 1944. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She died September 19, 2010.
He was educated in the Benjamin and Spanish Fork schools and later received college degrees from both Brigham Young University and Cal State Los Angeles. He worked as a teacher for several years. While in California he was a school principal in the Pomona Unified School District for Harrison and Westmont schools.
Lorin was a loving, kind, and caring person with a genuine love for people. He loved outdoor sports including fishing, hunting, and camping. He also had a great love for his garden. He coached his two sons for a total of 10 years in baseball.
Lorin was a member of the United States Army Air Corps (1944-1946) and was a veteran of World War II where he served with distinction in the Iwo Jima and the Philippine Island campaigns.
Lorin was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions including high priest group leader, Bishop, and stake clerk.
Survivors include his children: Cheryl Lyn (John) McCormack, Catherine (Doug) Bull, Mark (Sandra) Anderson, Paul Anderson; 21 Grandchildren, 55 Great-grandchildren, 2 Great-Great Grandchildren and by two brothers, Lynn and Bernell Anderson.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Veterans Hospital and Lakeview Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Dawson Hollow Ward, Evergreen Chapel, 2435 E. Canyon Rim (1550 N.), Layton, UT. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment will be at the Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 N. Fairfield Road.
