Lynn Maxfield

Lynn Curtis Maxfield, 85, passed away at his home in Layton, Utah on July 14, 2016 after a valiant battle with liver cancer.  He was born in Idaho on June 21, 1931 to Curtis Wayne and Kina Ellen Maxfield.

After graduating from high school, Lynn joined the US Navy and served four years as a sonar man during the Korean Conflict.  Soon after returning home, he met his sweetheart, Colleen Harvey.  They were married in 1954 and recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary.  Layton became their home 59 years ago where they raised their three children: Steve, Debbie (Daren) Stevenson, and Mark (Rebecca).  They have also been blessed with eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He had a great love for the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He always had a joke to tell, as well as a life-lesson to be taught.

Lynn often shared stories from his childhood that could be described as “living on the edge.”   This phrase took on new meaning after his retirement from HAFB as he developed a passion for designing and making custom knives.  Maxfield Custom Knives are rivaled among the top knives in the country and are known for their beauty, performance, and keen edges.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.   Friends may visit family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
