Marvin Brown

January 18, 1929 ~ July 29, 2017

Marvin Brown passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, 29 July 2017, at the age of 88. He was born 18 January 1929 in Riverdale, UT and was a long time resident of Roy. Hailing from a rich Utah pioneer heritage, he was the youngest of eight children born to Augustus Mark and Zalia Louise (Virgin) Brown.

He grew up working on the family fruit farm. His father taught him how to build things and the mechanical skills to repair autos as well as farm machinery. Marv was taught “anything that can be fixed…fix it.” He loved to build things including his own homes, a camper and even a house boat he enjoyed at Lake Powell. He also liked drafting and created blueprints for one of the homes he built. Marv had a wealth of common sense and could turn a quick phrase with advice you would remember all of your life.

On 19 July 1949, Marvin married Donna Mae Surrage in Logan, UT. This union was blessed with five children: Julie B. (Jack) Fagan of South Ogden; A. Mark (Peggy) Brown of American Falls, ID; Pamela Klomp of North Ogden; Jannette (Tom) Pappas of South Ogden; and Belinda (Keith) Rounkles of Ogden. Steve Thurgood was their unofficially adopted son who came to sleep over one night and stayed for a couple of years. They were divorced in 1976.

Marvin married Eudora (Buff) Adams 26 December 1978 in Macon, GA. They were divorced 7 November 1985 and then remarried 17 November 2004 in Twin Falls, ID. He has three stepchildren through this union: Teresa (Paul) Long of Marietta, GA; Ben (Cindy) Adams of Macon, GA; and Joseph Adams of Macon, GA.

Marv was also greatly blessed as the grandfather to 19 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.

He served in the United States Naval Reserve as a Fireman Apprentice stationed in San Francisco where he received an Honorable Discharge 13 April 1952.

Marv was employed 33 years in Logistics Management Supply at Defense Depot Ogden and Hill Air Force Base. This service included support for the U. S. Air Force Thunderbirds and a tour of duty stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was also proud of the years he served as a State Fair Judge for the American Rabbit Breeders Association.

He spent many years coaching young men’s church basketball and softball teams, as well as community baseball teams. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, hunting, and boating. He loved this great country traveling to Hawaii, on many road trips to State Fairs, National Parks, the Black Hills, the Western states and across country several times.

Marv was predeceased by his parents, six brothers (Harlon, Amos, Harlo, Ivan, Norman, and Leland Brown) and one sister (Alice Schenck).

The family would like to thank the staff at Barrington Place for their loving care of Marv. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 855 E. 4800 S., Suite 100, Salt Lake City, UT 84107 or by phone 801-265-1944.

At his request and consistent with his simple lifestyle, there will be a graveside service with military honors at the Ogden City Cemetery, 1875 Monroe Blvd, Ogden, UT on Thursday, August 3rd at 11:00 am.  Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
