Maxine Nelson

Maxine Whitaker Nelson, 95 our dear mother passed away June 27, 2017 peacefully at home of natural causes.  She was born on a snowy day February 1, 1922, in Willard, Utah to Lewis Eugene and Emma Charlotte Cole Whitaker.  Maxine attended schools in Promontory, Brigham City and graduated from Stephen’s Henagar Business College.

She married Jarvis Milton Nelson on July 1, 1943 in Brigham City, Utah.  Marrying this Navy man started an adventure for this hard working farm girl from Utah.  They lived in San Francisco, CA, San Diego, CA, Bremerton, WA, Jacksonville, FL and Hawaii before settling in Layton, Utah.  Maxine and Jarvis were later sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple.  Jarvis passed away February 22, 1988.

Maxine shared her homemade quilts, embroidered pillow cases, canned home goods and baked the best chocolate chip cookies ever for her children and grandchildren.  She was a cancer survivor and an avid Utah Jazz fan.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various callings throughout her lifetime.

Surviving are her children: Mike (Trudy-deceased), of Farmington, UT, Kathy (Walt Schofield), Kaysville, UT, Steve (Vickie) of Fordland, MO, Doug (LaVern) of Layton, UT and Mark (Michelle) of West Point, UT.  There are 24 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren (a set of twins on the way) and three great-great-grandchildren (one more on the way), also her brother Darwin Whitaker and sister-in-law Florence Whitaker.

Maxine is preceded in death by her sisters; Charlene Rees, Norma Larsen, brothers; Ed, Arnold, LaVar and Jarvis Whiteaker.  A daughter –in-law Trudy Elliott Nelson and a great-granddaughter Brianna K. Nelson.

The family would like to thank the Bristol Hospice nurses and niece Lola for the wonderful care and support they gave to Maxine and family.  In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Children’s Cancer Society at www. Childrenscancercenter.org.
