MAXINE PARKIN PARKER

1923 – 2016

Maxine Parkin Parker passed away October 6, 2016 from causes incident to age.  She was born March 9, 1923 in Ogden, Utah.  She was the second child born to Leo Christmas Parkin and Algie Hatch Parkin.

Maxine was proud of being a direct descendant of Governor William Bradford and Elder William Brewster of the Mayflower.  She was also the descendant of soldiers who fought in the American Revolution.  Her pioneer ancestor heritage included handcart, wagon train, and Mormon Battalion members.

Maxine attended Washington Elementary and Junior High schools, and graduated from Ogden High School and Henager Business College in Salt Lake City.  She worked for American Can Company for over four years.

She met the love of her life, Robert Roland Parker, planning an M-Men and Gleaner dinner dance in 1942.  They were married November 5, 1945 for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.  They have eight children—five sons and three daughters.

Maxine and “Bob” owned and operated a farm and cattle operation in Hooper, Utah, where she, being a city girl, would surprise everyone by jumping right in to assist during harvest time.  In 1953, Bob joined the Boy Scouts of America and worked 32 years as a professional scouter.  Maxine played a significant part in his scouting success.  She was an energetic, loyal supporter of Boy Scouting, and was honored by the Teton Peaks Council with the last Silver Fawn award given by the Boy Scouts of America.  Her husband’s job took them to Idaho Falls, Idaho, and then to Saginaw, Michigan.

Maxine spent many years working in a variety of church callings.  She served as an early-morning seminary teacher, in Relief Society as a teacher, counselor, president, and stake Relief Society counselor.  Maxine was scribe for two stake patriarchs.  She received a Golden Gleaner award.  She worked many years as a den mother, Guide Patrol leader, and on Primary stake boards in the Scouting program.

After retirement, Maxine and Bob moved to Centerville, Utah.  They were guides on Temple Square, and served two full-time missions—in Bangkok, Thailand, and Sydney, Australia.  She was very proud that their five sons fulfilled LDS missions.

Maxine spent many hours working on genealogy, and was an avid collector of ancestral pictures and histories.  With the help of her son, Glen, these have been compiled into three books:  One, her and Robert’s autobiographies; a second book of Hatch, Mann, Parkin, and Burningham ancestors; and a third book of her husband’s ancestors: the Parker, Cox, Green, and Moyes ancestors.

Maxine is survived by her eight children:  Ann (Ted) Steinman, Ammon, ID; Clyde (Becky) Parker, Idaho Falls, ID; Glen (Beverly) Parker, Provo, UT; Paul (Audrey) Parker, Clinton, UT; Joan (Bob) Becker, Hastings, MI; Lynn (Kenna) Parker, Rigby, ID; Carl (Kelli) Parker, Payson, UT; Joyce (Richard) Ellis, West Jordan, UT; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Their most rewarding experience was spending time with their family.  Maxine considered her children and grandchildren as gifts from God.  She would often say the best gift she had given her children was each other.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E.  where friends may visit family from 9:30 - 10:30 am prior to services.  Interment Bountiful City Cemetery.
