Richard Michael Nye

June 1, 1943 ~ November 5, 2017

Richard Michael Nye, our beloved father, husband, brother, grandfather, and friend passed away on November 5, 2017.  Richard was surrounded by his family as he passed from this life into the next.

Richard was born on June 1, 1943 to Lawrence Lee and Elsie Verme Nye in Ogden, UT. Richard had one brother, Larry, and together they grew up roaming the neighborhood around Nye’s hill in Ogden.

Richard married Claire Hartmann on July 2, 1971 and were later sealed in the Ogden Utah LDS Temple for time and all eternity. They met while working at Associated Piping at the Freeport Center in Clearfield, and have been married for forty-six years. They have four children: Greg Naylor (Kristen), Rich (Lara), Brandon, and Mandy (Brad). They have 13 grandchildren who adore and will miss Grandpa, his teasing, and most importantly his hugs.

Richard was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities, including Bishop of the Uintah 6th Ward.  Many people throughout these past few days have talked of his uncanny ability to welcome all of those around him with his infectious smile and personality.

Richard enjoyed all things that pertained to the outdoors, teaching his children and grandchildren how to fish, hunt, and camp every year. If he wasn’t in the mountains, he was working in his garden, making his lawn pristine, or golfing with family. His service to others was immeasurable. He was a man of many talents who showed in word and deed his love and devotion to God and his neighbor.

Dad embodied the very essence of what it meant to be a father. He was a provider, teacher, healer, comforter, and priesthood holder. Dad taught by his example that the most sacred priesthood duty was that of being a righteous husband and father. His small acts of love, which were apparent in every facet of his life, taught of his Savior’s love and demonstrated his fidelity to our Heavenly Father.

We will surely miss his countenance and one-liners as we go throughout this life without him.

Richard is survived by his wife Claire, his children: Greg, Rich, Brandon, Mandy, and his brother Larry (Shirley) Nye of Mountain Green, UT. He is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Elsie.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Weber Stake Center, 5855 Skyline Dr., Ogden.
