Richard Weeks
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Richard D. Weeks peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 of renal failure. He was born June 15, 1933 in Burley, Idaho to Clarence H. and Helen B. Driggs Weeks. He later moved to Clearfield and attended Davis High School, where he met his sweetheart Ruela M. Austin. They were married January 29, 1953. Marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Richard served in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Fort Ord, California and the Presidio of Monterey, California. They came back to Utah and have lived in Clearfield for 60 years. Richard was a program manager at HAFB for 36 years. He also owned Dick’s Boat Shop, which has been in business for 56 years.
Richard was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he held many callings, including an awesome home teacher. Dad had many hobbies, including boating, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, water and snow skiing; anything that was out doors and involved being with his family. He was also a very avid cyclist, and spent many days riding at Antelope Island with Mom, and sometimes his children and grandchildren. His favorite vacation spots were Island Park and Lake Powell.
Richard and Ruela have four children, 11 grandchildren, who always referred to their grandfather as Grampy and Gramps, 11 great-grandchildren, and one on the way. He is survived by his wife Ruela, the love of his life, having been married for 62 years, and their children Jeff (Andrea) Weeks, Clinton; Lorrie (Wes) Goldsberry, Ogden; Jill (David) Mikesell, Layton; and Tracy (Torie) Weeks, Layton. He is preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Clearfield City Cemetery.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the loving care rendered by the staff at Farmington Bay Dialysis and Rocky Mountain Hospice.
