Robert Raymond Beishline

November 28, 1930 ~ September 15, 2017

Robert Raymond Beishline passed away peacefully on September 15, 2017, in Ogden, Utah, surrounded by his loving family. He was 86 years old.

Bob was born on November 28, 1930 to Jesse Mae Willard and Robert Ray Beishline in Ogden, Utah, the youngest of four children. He attended Ogden High School, Weber State College, and graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in chemistry. As an active member of the LDS Church, Bob served a mission to Los Angeles, California, where he later returned with Audrey Neesha Andelin to marry in the Los Angeles LDS Temple on June 23, 1959. Bob and Audrey moved to Pennsylvania and started a family while Bob completed his PhD in chemistry at Pennsylvania State University. He worked doing research in New Jersey and New York before returning to his roots in Ogden, where he settled permanently as a well-respected professor of chemistry at Weber State University for 29 years. “Dr. B” was awarded multiple government research grants during his tenure at WSU, and mentored numerous young undergraduate students, many of whom kept in touch over the years and went on to have prestigious scientific careers of their own.

Bob served his church with great conviction, and was called to serve a second LDS mission to Munich, Germany with his wife Audrey in 1999. He held many church positions during his lifetime, including Bishop, Counselor to the Stake President, Young Men’s President, Temple Worker, and Stake High Councilor, but he truly found his calling as a Scoutmaster. He loved camping at his property in Monty Cristo, and spending time with scouts building snow caves and cooking foil dinners over campfires. He also played an instrumental role in helping several cub scouts, including his sons, win top honors or place highly in the Pinewood Derby.

Bob was known for wearing bow ties, which became his signature style at both church and at school. He was also an accomplished musician, playing drums since the early grades of elementary school. He played in multiple polka and dance bands throughout his life. He was a member of the Ogden City Concert Band. He continued to play weekly dances at the Golden Hours Retirement Center until his death.

Bob was a devout family man, and loved spending time with his wife, four children and nine grandchildren, especially during holidays and annual family trips to Zion National Park and the Utah Shakespeare Festival. Generous to a fault, Bob was very philanthropic, contributing regularly to multiple arts and religious organizations, community service and political causes.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters; Helen Beishline, Hazel DePierro and Ruth Warren.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey; daughters, Erin (George) Strother and Megan (Gentry) Jensen; sons, Ben (Kristin) Beishline and Rob (Shelley) Beishline; and grandchildren, Andelin, Connor, Ryan, Paige, Claire, Lincoln, Jackson, Miles and Zoey.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Ogden LDS Ruston Heights Ward Chapel, 1550 Rushton St.  Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.
