Robert John Hunter

June 7, 1975 ~ May 12, 2017

On May 12, 2017, an unexpected visit from heavenly angels visited West Haven, Utah, and escorted Robert John Hunter home to his Heavenly Father while he slept.  Rob was the first son born to LaDawn and John Hunter of Roy on June 7, 1975.  He was a long awaited miracle baby thanks to the knowledge and patience of Dr. Byron Naisbitt.  Seventeen months later he was joined by baby brother Cody.  They have remained best buds as well as brothers, often considered to be fraternal twins.  They earned their Eagle Scouts together in 1990.  In 1981, sister Angela arrived and in 1986, the Hunter family was complete with the arrival of Tyler.  Rob took his role as Big Brother very seriously and developed special teaching techniques for his siblings to learn who was “The Master”.

Rob graduated from Roy High School and Weber State University.  He then earned his Masters degree from the University of Utah as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  After his Italy-Rome LDS Mission, he worked part time at McKay-Dee Hospital for 18 years, first as a psych tech and then advanced to a crisis worker once he completed his masters degree.  He was employed as a Councilor for Weber Human Services for the past 14 years. He gave everything any human being could possibly give to his clients to help deal with the challenging demons of mental illness.  He was always concerned about the limited resources and available time to fully assist this portion of the community’s population.  His best professional friend, Cory Peterson helped him find answers to many of these challenges. No man has ever had a bigger heart filled with love and concern for his fellow human being.  Even when his own health and energy were at times exhausted, he still found a way to give an encouraging word and listening ear to those in need.

On May 19th, 2000, he married the only true love of his life, Angela Kay Westover, in the Ogden LDS Temple.  He took great pride working meticulously alongside his father-in-law, Floyd, to complete the construction of their family home in Roy.  They were blessed with an energetic son, Jacob, and a princess daughter, Kayla.  There is no earthly measure of the love and dedication he has for his children.

He provided fatherly guidance to his special niece Nicolle Hunter.  His pride for each of her accomplishments was obvious and his encouragement for her success endless.  As she became a dating teenager, each potential candidate required his approval.  He was very proud of all his nieces and nephews – Hayli, Riley, Braiden, Jared, Conner, Korver, Dezi, Paige, and Kate.

Awaiting his heavenly arrival were grandparents, Iola & Orville Summers, June Green, and Lawrence Hunter; uncle, Bob Summers; and great-aunt, Verna Sessions.  While the earth has been cooled by his departure, the heavens are warmed by the warmth of his joyous arrival.  He will be missed beyond description by his heartbroken wife and children, always supportive and deeply sadden parents and siblings, doting Auntie M; adopted Grandma Carol Hess Layton; and countless neighbors, friends, and coworkers.

We know he is off on a brilliant new chapter of his existence.  A brief preview he experienced of that heavenly brilliance gave him new wonder and questions to be answered. We will be eager to learn of his new knowledge when our time comes to join him.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th St.
