Ronald T. Halverson

December 18, 1936 ~ February 24, 2017

Ronald T. Halverson, 80, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, February 24, 2017. He was born on December 18, 1936 in Ogden, UT to Marlowe and Hilda Tomlinson Halverson. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor. He led a life of dedicated service to his family, friends, church, community, and country.

Ron served a mission in Norway. When he returned home, he met his wife, Linda Jensen, while attending Weber State College. They married in the LDS Salt Lake Temple in 1960 and have five children: Brent, David, Jann, Blair, and Mark; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ron joined his family’s business and owned and operated the third generation plumbing, heating, and mechanical contracting business with his brother Phil. During his career he became President of the Utah Mechanical contractors association.

He has served in many capacities in both the community and government over the years. He began his service to his country by serving as a sergeant in the United States Army Reserves. He then served as a legislator for 16 years in both the Utah House of Representatives and State Senate. In addition, he served on the Board of Trustees for Weber State University and as the State Building Board Chairman for several years. He was able to show his love for his hometown community and his passion for horses by serving as the Ogden Pioneer Days Chairman and was recently honored, along with his wife, as the grand Marshals.

Ron was also actively involved in the scouting program and was presented the Silver Beaver Award.

Ron was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various ward, stake, and church leadership callings most of his life. From Stake President, Mission President, Regional Representative, Area Authority, and General Authority, Ron has always answered the call to serve. From Norway to New Zealand, he and his wife have resided throughout the world while serving in their various church roles. His last church calling was as a sealer in the Ogden Temple, which was very dear to his heart, especially when he was able to seal many of his children and grandchildren.

He loved to spend time hunting, fishing, and four-wheeling with his family. Through these activities, he built strong relationships with his children, grandchildren, and friends.

He also loved to explore the back country of St. George, UT, on his Razor with his retired friends and family.

Ron’s example of hard work and service, as well as his love for life and the great outdoors, is a legacy for all of us.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, children: Brent Ronald (Tone) Halverson, Roy, UT; David Jensen (Camille) Halverson, Ogden, UT; Jann (Brett) King, Kaysville, UT; Blair Tomlinson (Teri) Halverson, South Weber, UT; Mark Charles (Shannon) Halverson, Kaysville, UT; 16 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gary (Mary) Halverson and Phillip (Dionne) Halverson; and sister-in-law, Gayle Halverson.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dale Marlowe Halverson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Weber Stake Center, 5855 Skyline Drive. Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. They may also visit on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Weber Stake Center.
