WEST HAVEN – Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Ruby Rodriguez, 81, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at McKay-Dee Hospital surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness.  The 2nd of six children, Ruby was born to Martin and Eufelia Rivera in Taos, New Mexico and was raised there and in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

She met returned Air Force and Navy serviceman, Jesse R. Rodriguez, and after courting, they married on June 18, 1955 in Rock Springs.

They had three children, Pierre, Anna, and Stephanie before settling in Ogden, in the early 1960s.

A devoted homemaker, Ruby also worked at Holley’s Drive In and was the proprietor of Ruby’s Handi-Mart.

Ruby loved to cook – her famous tortillas, tamales, and hot salsa will be missed, as she will.  Ruby also loved bowling and playing cards with her girlfriends, but mostly games with her grandkids!

She will be remembered for her kind outgoing way with people; thoughtful and generous to a fault.

Most of all, Ruby was a loving cook and the best grandma ever.  She had beautiful skin and eyes.

Ruby is survived by her daughters, Anna (Steve) Gay, Farr West and Stephanie (Larry) Knight, Peoria, AZ; three grandchildren, Brandon (Carsen), Shandel (Seth), and Shannon (Shawn); and seven great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brothers, Sam Medina and Ray Medina and sister, LuAna Gallegos all of New Mexico.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse; son and daughter-in-law, Pierre and Kathy; brother, Albert Rivera; and sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Nick Gonzales.

Throughout her life Ruby enjoyed Jesse’s family – his siblings and their spouses were like brothers and sisters to her – she loved them as her own.

The family gives special thanks to Bessie Rodriguez, who was like her sister, and Pam Klomp, a longtime friend, for all of their support and thoughtfulness.

An Open House gathering will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the North View Senior Center, 495 East 2600 North, North Ogden, UT 84414. Arrangements entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
