Sherry Lynne King Mays

June 4, 1947 ~ September 22, 2019

On Sunday, September 22, 2019, Sherry Lynne King Mays, our momma, our “Crazy Sassy Grammy”, our “GG”, our best friend, our rock, our strength was given her wings, like an angel she soared, like a whisper in the wind she flew in to the hands of our Heavenly Father to be reunited with her loved ones that greeted her with open arms at the age of 72. Momma was born June 4, 1947 in Rigby, Idaho to Lewis Clyde King and Muriel Nielsen.

She married James G Mays on November 23, 1965, and their marriage lasted for 21 years. They shared many memories on the ranch together including; farming, lambing, hunting, fishing, camping, arrowhead hunting, and bowling. Together they were blessed with three beautiful daughters, who she referred to as her three roses; Brenda, Mavanee, and Jami. The beautiful memories on the ranch in Howe will be cherished in our hearts, for our lifetime.

Mom later moved her daughters to Utah, to be close to her sisters and mother so she could begin a new chapter in her life. Here she received what began, by what she referred to as “one of the greatest blessings a person could have”, becoming a grandparent and later a great-grandparent. Mom took her role as a “Sassy Grammy” very serious, and she did it effortlessly. She loved each one of her grandchildren unconditionally, and with so much love and passion. Grammy looked forward to her weekly Thursday hair appointments with Tasia, which ironically this Thursday will be Tasia’s final tribute to her “Sassy Grammy” to color and style her hair and do her makeup.

Mom was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that helped her exercise her love of service to others. She served many callings including Relief Society President, Primary President, just to name a few. When she received her Endowments, she furthered her love of service for others by participating in temple work.  She leaned heavily on her faith in the tough times and it helped her courageously conquer stage four breast cancer.

Mom had many struggles throughout her life. In addition to her faith, she found strength and comfort through her off beat, crazy, witty personality. I guarantee there is no one that could ever say there was a dull moment around mom. She was quick witted; she had a gift to lighten the mood with her sense of humor whether it was accidental or on purpose; a trait that she passed on to her daughters and grandchildren gracefully.

Mom had an amazing light within that we will all carry inside each of us. She had the most beautiful eyes of anyone I ever met; kind, loving, and genuine and full of so much compassion. The smell of white shoulders, the taste of cherry chocolates with the liquid center, cough drops, Kleenex, maple nut ice cream, cinnamon, and arrowheads will always bring a smile to our faces and will give us comfort and warmth in our hearts.

Mom never knew a stranger, she had such an amazing ability to draw people to her with her beautiful soul, people that she just met could feel her warm inviting spirit which made them feel loved and as if they had always known her. She came here to earth to love and she did it flawlessly.  Her heart was pure and full of so much love and compassion.

Mom is survived by her loving daughters, Brenda (Kevin) Widdison, Mavanee (Dallas) Espinoza, and Jami (Casey) Christopherson; grandchildren, Sascha (Brad), Tyson, Kolton (Shelby), Tasia (PJ), Trevor (Kiasa), Skyler, Bodee,  Cali and “Lil Dal” and two great granddaughters, Harlee, and Wylie, and a future great-grandson, BryLynn due in December. Among many nieces and nephews, surviving sister-in law, Sally (Bud) King; and raised like sisters, her nieces Karla, Earlene, and Michelle.

She was reunited in death by her parents; two brothers, Buddy and Chester; her sister, Mavanee; brother-in-law, Karl; son-in-law, Kevin Widdison; and nephew, Randy Dunn.
