Telitha Lindquist Greiner

January 28, 1961 ~ August 4, 2016

Our darling and beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, Telitha Lindquist Greiner, has opened a giant hole in our hearts.  Born Jan. 28, 1961, the youngest child of Telitha (Tita) E. and John A. Lindquist, she left us decades too soon on August 4, 2016, due to liver failure brought on by a three-year battle with colon cancer.

Telitha attended Ogden City schools and graduated from Weber State College with a B.S. in Sociology in 1985.  Her beautiful smile and high kicks earned her membership on the OHS Tigerette and WSC Chantanelle drill teams.  At WSC she enjoyed her affiliation with LaDioneda social club.

Telitha began what was to become a deeply committed community engagement by joining the Ogden City Police Reserves during college.  Here she was smitten with the smart, handsome young police sergeant Jon J. Greiner, whom she married in 1986.  They nurtured 3 remarkable children in a house that was a second home to countless others. Her pantry and heart were always open to those stopping by.

Telitha’s professional career focused on sales for Doncaster, a woman’s clothing line, and in real estate with Coldwell Banker.  Her priorities, however, were always her family and friends, followed by her desire and dedication to improving educational and medical services in the Ogden/Weber area.

Devoted to excellent education for all children, Telitha served as PTA president of Wasatch Elementary and Ogden High schools before being president of the Ogden City School Foundation and a board member for many years.  She recently served on the advancement board of WSU’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Telitha’s membership in the Ogden Junior League, of which she was also president, enabled her to identify community needs, chiefly pertaining to health care.  She thus helped create, with three close friends, the Children’s Health Connection to ensure that underserved children received medical and dental exams and follow-up care.  This program’s success led to the group developing the Women’s Health Connection to help the children’s mothers. The Health Connection received several awards: The American Hospital Association Nova Bright Star, the Utah Business Health Care Hero Award and the Utah Nurses Association Community Service Award.

Telitha augmented her health care service by sitting on advisory and trustee boards for the McKay-Dee Hospital Center, McKay-Dee Hospital Institutional Review Board, Madison Elementary Midtown Community Health Center and Weber Coalition for a Healthy Community.  She volunteered directly with the McKay-Dee Hospital Mother’s Choice Program.

Telitha was especially committed as a board member and president to strengthening Friends of the Children’s Justice Center, which provides counseling and safety for abused children.  Recognizing her profound advocacy for children, McKay-Dee gave her the Champions for Children Award.

Telitha’s service to community cultural programs includes board membership and officer positions on R.A.M.P., the Ogden Eccles Dinosaur Park, United Way allocations committee, Perry’s Egyptian Theater Foundation and Ogden Christmas Village.  As a consequence of many years’ commitment to community excellence, she received the M. Mattie Wattis Harris Spirit of the American Woman Award and the Community Legacy and Impact award from the Ogden Junior League.

Everyone who knew Telitha often knew her as a very social woman, there wasn’t a place she would go without making a new friend.  She was honest, spontaneous, funny, and one of the biggest sources of encouragement and support.  She didn’t want anyone to only endure life; she wanted them to live it.

Telitha devotedly served in many capacities for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Her strong testimony in the Gospel of Jesus Christ proved to be a source of strength, guidance, and inspiration throughout her life and a cornerstone in raising her family.  She had the faithful support of her husband in modeling this testimony for her children to follow.

Telitha is survived by her loving husband, Jon J. Greiner; her adored children, Jonathan Lindquist Greiner, Telitha Elyse Greiner and Jared Christian Greiner; her siblings, Kathryn Lindquist (Jim Moore), Robert E. Lindquist, John E. Lindquist, Steven E. Lindquist (Wanda), Laurie L. Babilis (Jean) and Peter N. Lindquist (Carol); her mother-in-law, Barbara B. Anderson; former sisters-in-law, Suzanne Lindquist and Dianna Lindquist, and innumerable friends and fans.  We will so miss her quirky humor and loving, generous spirit.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit family on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
