Vernal Ezra Anderson
February 24, 1928 – November 14, 2017
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Vernal E. Anderson died peacefully on Tuesday, November 14, 2017.
He was raised in Taylor, Utah by his loving parents, Joseph and Katherine Anderson. He attended school in Weber County, graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber State College.
Vernal married VaLoy Haderlie on July 5, 1957 in the Logan LDS Temple. They lived in the same house in West Haven for over 57 years. At his death they lived in Roy, Utah.
He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Canada, Toronto Mission. He served faithfully in many church callings, including teacher, High Priest Group Leader, Ward Clerk, Branch President for Peachtree Assisted Living Center, bishop at the Bishop’s Storehouse in Ogden, patriarch of the West Haven Stake, and served three temple missions at the Ogden LDS Temple where he later enjoyed performing temple work with a group of friends.
Vernal enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged and enlisted in the Army Reserve where he served for 36 years.
He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1984.
He served on the Mosquito Abatement Board for West Haven. He enjoyed gardening, sharing produce with family and friends. He stayed fit by going to the gym regularly for many years. He enjoyed western music and movies, especially John Wayne movies.
Vernal is survived by his wife, VaLoy; children Bret (Cindy), Cathy Burton (Jeff), and Allen K.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One grandson, Daniel Burton, is currently serving an LDS mission. He was preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings, and one granddaughter, Cami Burton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Roy Stake Center, 5127 South 2400 West. The family will meet with friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church.
