On July 14, 2024, Ada Joanne Fisher George slipped out of this life and into the arms of her forever love, Philip Dean George Sr. Joanne was born on December 16, 1934, in West Point, Utah, and passed away peacefully in her daughter’s care in Gilbert, Arizona.
The second daughter of Golden Fisher and Melba Albina Jensen Fisher, she was preceded in death by her husband; her mother and father; and her sister, Barbara Joy Fisher Hunt; and her brother, William Fredrick Fisher. She was also preceded in death by her beloved mother-in-law, Vera Aileen Batchelor George who remained a close friend and confidant, even after her husband died.
Joanne was left a widow on February 1, 1969, when her husband died trying to save a boy at a scout outing. She leaves behind her four children, Douglas (Karen) George, Dan (Susanne) George, Philip (Mary) George, and Janet (Randy) Bell. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dixie Fisher. She leaves behind the loving legacy of 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren with one more on the way.
Joanne worked for the IRS for 18 years, from which she retired in 1990. She also worked for H&R Block, the American Stores, and JC Penny’s.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in several callings including Primary President and Relief Society President. Her favorite calling was serving for 13 years in the Salt Lake Temple as an ordinance worker.
Joanne knew and followed sports vigorously. She loved the Denver Broncos, the Utah Jazz, and she loved to watch tennis. Joanne was known for her sense of humor, her grit, and her love for people. She was a fighter and a survivor, and she will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 11:30 to 12:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.
