Adele Poorte
June 6, 1950 ~ November 12, 2017
On the beautiful evening of November 12, 2017, Adele Poorte, 67, chose to peacefully and quietly return home while surrounded by many that she loved on both sides of the veil. She was escorted home by those family and friends that she faithfully served throughout her life. She has now completely overcome the physical challenges that she endured for many years.
In anticipation of her eventual passing, Adele wrote:
“I was born on June 6, 1950 in the old Dee Hospital. I am the daughter of Thomas H. and Enid C. Poorte and the sister to Brent Thomas Poorte – (all) deceased and Carol Poorte Crowther (Victor); and sister-in-law to Kathleen Poorte (Brent). I am the ‘favorite’ aunt to Jenny, Lisa (Erich), Alisha, Michelle (Patrick), and Stephanie, and the great-aunt of Tiffany and Tristan.
I was raised and attended schools in Ogden City. I did not leave school until I was 54 years old. It was not because I had to repeat grades, but because I chose teaching as my lifelong career. I taught children in 2nd through 6th grades for 32 years. I hope I was a positive influence for many, but fear I also may have ‘damaged’ a few along the way (hopefully very few.)”
She received her Masters Degree in Education and was a special teacher to thousands of children, many who kept in contact with her over the years. Even in retirement she used her skills to make every holiday a special event, and on Sunday her home was filled with family and friends for dinner.
Adele was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions, including Relief Society President, however her favorite was teaching the children in Primary. She will be remembered for her dedication and selflessness towards others.
Adele appreciates and is grateful for the many friends and family who visited, cared for, and stayed with her, including her good friend Jody Jackson. Many thanks for the special care given by Dr. Harold Johnson and his staff, the hospital staff and doctors, Crestwood and IHC Hospice.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
