Adrian “Bruce” Butters, 83, passed away on January 17, 2025, with family by his side. He was born April 29, 1941, to Carl Ernest Butters and Adriana Van Batenburg in Ogden, Utah. He attended Ogden High School and Weber State College. He lived in Ogden, Utah; Seattle, Washington; Washington Terrace, Utah; and made his final home in Syracuse, Utah.
Bruce married Claudine Drysdale in the Logan Utah Temple on August 3, 1964. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this last August. They were blessed with four beautiful children together. Bruce was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was loved by all his family.
Bruce was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a mission in Northern California. He served in many church callings, and some of his favorites were Elders Quorum teacher and Scout Master. He had a special love for the scouting program and was very influential in the lives of many young men. In later years, he dedicated his time to genealogy and family history work.
Bruce had various jobs that included being a manager at Stop & Shop and Western Auto. He was a general contractor in home repair and remodeling. His final career was working for the Union Pacific Railroad as a brakeman and conductor. He was a member of the union for over 25 years until he retired. Co-workers described him as a fun, joking, and happy person to work with.
One of his favorite things was to spend his time and share his talents with family and friends. He loved people unconditionally and accepted people as they are. Some of his hobbies included cross stitching, wood working, small engine repair, gardening, ceramics, and collecting coins and stamps.
Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Carl Ernest (Mabel) Butters Sr., his mother, Adriana (Malcolm) Reiss; brother, Ernie (Betty) Butters, sister, Adriana (Jim) Gonecheo; grandson, Cody Daybell; and best dog friend Bandit.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Claudine Butters; and his children, Kevin Butters; Becky (Kirt) Bill; Shelly (Chad) Dunn; and David (Debra) Butters. His legacy of love continues through 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Turnberry Ward Chapel, 3426 West. Augusta Drive, Syracuse Utah. Family and friends may pay their respect and condolences on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Syracuse Mortuary. 869 South 2000 West, Syracuse Utah, and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the chapel.
Interment will take place at the Syracuse City Cemetery.
