Afton Poll Jorgenson

Our dear Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Sister, Afton Poll Jorgenson passed away peacefully in her home on August 11, 2014, at the age of 76. Afton was born in Ogden, Utah on August 23, 1937 to George Henry and Myrtle Jane Nalder Poll. Afton married Lyle A. Jorgenson on July 7, 1958 in Preston, ID and has called South Weber her home for 72 years.
Afton attended Clinton Elementary and graduated from Davis High School in 1955. Throughout high school, Afton played softball and enjoyed the position of pitcher. After graduation she obtained a civil service job at Hill Air Force Base, retiring after 38 years.
Afton enjoyed spending time with her family, attending grandchildren and great-grandchildren activities, traveling with Lyle to find old tractors, and she was an avid fan of the Utah Jazz. When Afton was able, she was an avid gardener which tomatoes were her favorite, and she also loved planting rows of purple and pink petunias and red geraniums in her yard. Afton also cooked the best pumpkin pie and oatmeal cookies which many adored throughout the years.
Afton was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints South Weber 1 st Ward, serving in many callings. As a member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Afton enjoyed meeting with others, and she looked forward to her monthly luncheon with the high school girlfriends.
Afton leaves behind her spouse, Lyle; two daughters, Natalie (Mark) Dayton and Suzanne (Curtis) Mitchell, all of South Weber; six grandchildren, Dawn and husband Travis, Amee and husband Stephen, Tami and husband Alton, Paden, Wyatt, and Dusty; eight great-grandchildren, her twin sister, Erma Smith; brother, Ralph Poll; and sister, Lucille Bodily.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Myrtle Poll; and two sisters, Verna Anderson and Leah Adams.
Afton was a kind, tender, and loving person with a sweet spirit. Life has been difficult for her these past few years, but she did the very best she could and endured to the end. Her reward will be great and she will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
A special thank you goes to the South Weber Relief Society members, friends of the family, and Hearts for Hospice employees and volunteers for the many dedicated hours providing loving care and support to Afton and her family during the past 19 months. Also a special thank you goes out to Katie Clark for your generosity and going above the call of duty for Afton and Lyle.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
