Afton Eleanor Robertson
BOUNTIFUL a" Afton Eleanor Nasfell Robertson, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and best friend, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2010 following an incident related to age.
Afton was born November 13, 1921 in Ogden, Utah. She was the daughter of George and Hazel Gay Kessler Nasfell. She had four siblings. When she was younger, her family used to call her "Lil Nell." Mom grew up in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School.
She married William Joseph Robertson in Baltimore, Maryland on June 5, 1943. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were divorced after 45 years of marriage, but their legacy continues with their children.
Mom was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She always enjoyed the missionaries who would visit her and bring her the sacrament.
She worked for the government and retired from the I.R.S. following 40 years of service.
Afton loved Utah. She took so much delight in the surrounding mountains and was an avid skier for the majority of her life. She passed the love for skiing onto her children and grandchildren. She was very fond of sports. Her favorite football team was the Dallas Cowboys and thought Roger Staubach was the greatest quarterback ever! Mom was also a huge Utah Jazz fan. You could always count on her to know the score of the last game and when the next game was. Following her retirement, Mom became a member of Meals on Wheels where she took the pledge to end senior hunger to heart. When Mom wasn''t busy helping nourish Utah seniors, she could be found at the Layton Surf ''N Swim attending her water aerobics class. Mom also loved to travel. Her favorite places to visit were Alaska, Yellowstone and Corpus Christi. Mom cherished her love of reading. She always had a subscription to National Geographic and Reader''s Digest.
Surviving Mom are her children, Janet Gay, Bill (Diane), Dianne (Wayne), Pat (Val), David, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a very special daughter-in-law, Tricia Robertson. Afton was also a grandmother to five very sweet dogs.
Afton has been reunited with her parents and four siblings.
The family wishes to thank Utah Hospice Specialists, especially Debbie, Heather and Casey. We also want to give a special thanks to Susan Feighner, who so wonderfully took care of Mom in her last days.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal." Mom, you were our best friend. We could always count on you to love and be there for us. Heaven as acquired the best angel there could possibly be. Although we knew it was coming, the end came suddenly for you. We will always remember the best times we had with you. We love you very much.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mom''s honor to the American Heart Association or to a favorite charity.
