Aili Tammisto
Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Aili Tapanainen Tammisto, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2010 in Layton, Utah.
She was born January 4, 1919 in Jaakkima, Finland to Antti Tapanainen and Ida Maria Kiukkonen. She was reared and educated in Jaakkima and Viipuri, Finland.
Aili married Gunnar Vihtori Tammisto on December 26, 1940 in Mikkeli, Finland. He passed away September 15, 2001. They were the parents of two daughters.
On May 25, 1958 she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints together with her husband and daughters. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Bern, Switzerland Temple in the Finnish ceremony in 1960. She served in her church in many capacities. She served a Finland Helsinki mission with her husband in 1980.
The family emigrated to the United States May 30, 1962. They lived in Florida and California and later settled in Utah.
Aili is survived by her daughters Heli Tellervo (William N.) Hunsaker of Clearfield, Utah; and Raila Marita (Joseph) Leavitt of Yorba Linda, California. Also surviving are grandchildren Ari Noble (Rochelle) Hunsaker, Kristi Linford, Kari Noble (Mary) Hunsaker, Kaija (Jon) Martinez, Anneli Arliss (Seth) Brandt, William Vihtori (Christine) Hunsaker, Denise Raila (David) Carter, Aaron William (Christina) Brackney and Jasan Gunnar (Heather) Brackney and 30 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Clearfield 3rd Ward, 231 E. 300 No., Clearfield. Friends may visit family on Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
