Alan LeRoy Harris Sr.

Alan LeRoy Harris Sr. passed away at his home Thursday, May 12, 2011. He was born Oct. 4, 1925 to Daniel Dee and Jennie Caroline Harris in Layton Utah. Alan graduated from Davis High School in 1943. He served in the Army during WWII as a medical technician in France and Germany. He served 2 A½ years as an LDS missionary in Norway. On September 17, 1952 he married Jenice Alene Hardy in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Alan graduated from Utah State University, taught LDS Seminary, worked at Deseret Mills in Kaysville, and was co-founder and owner of Diamond Bar Gro-Systems in South Ogden.

Alan was a devoted member of the LDS Church and faithfully served in various church positions throughout his life. He was an example of quiet devotion to all who knew him. He loved gardening, good music, and a good laugh. Alan was a steady and steadfast man. He was an avid reader and loved to learn. Together with Jenice, he taught their children the true meaning of seeking learning by study and by faith.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Jenice Hardy Harris, and eight children: Alan L. Harris, Jr. (South Ogden), Fred & Deborah Ewer (Clackamas, OR), Susan Harris (Shoshone, ID), David & Leslie Harris (Hooper, UT), Peter & Shelley Harris (Centerville, UT), Tom and Betsy Focareto (Falcon, CO), Barbara Harris (Shoshone, ID), and Amy Harris (Midvale, UT), nine grandsons, three granddaughters, and two granddaughters-in law. He is also survived by two sisters: Thelma (Rex) Weaver and Helen Dilman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Lewis Dee Harris, five brothers, and two sisters.

The family is deeply grateful for the enormous service provided by the nurses, aides, and volunteers of Intermountain Health Care Hospice.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Ogden 49th Ward building at 4210 South 300 West in South Ogden. Friends may visit family from 9:30-10:30 am on Wednesday at the ward building. Interment in the Kaysville City Cemetery.
