Albert F. Butters Jr.

May 29, 1936 — February 27, 2024

Albert F. “Bert” Butters Jr. passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.   Bert was born on May 29, 1936, in Ogden, Utah. The son of Albert F Sr. and Genevie Winward Butters. His family later moved to Salt Lake City where he graduated from South High.

After graduating he entered the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers as an apprentice electrician. He worked for and eventually became an owner of Winward Electric, a company started by his grandfather, until his retirement. He served as the Chapter President of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) from 1991 to 1993 for the state of Utah. He was very influential and successful in all areas of his career. He came out of retirement in 2014 to help his grandson Josh re-open Winward Electric. He also served in the US Air Force as a Radio Intercept Operator and was stationed in Japan and Korea. He finished his military career in Biloxi, Mississippi where he was a radio instructor.

Bert met and married the love of his life Shanna Lee Oyler on June 5, 1956. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married for 47 years until Shanna passed away in 2002. Together they raised a son and four daughters.

In 2011 he met and married Lauren F Godfrey. They lived in Pleasant View until the time of his passing.

Dad’s whole life was devoted to his family and creating a loving steadfast home filled with love and laughter. Dad had a love for many things including photography, sailing, and woodworking (he could build anything). He loved the outdoors including hunting, snow and water skiing, camping and anything his daughters could drag him into. Countless Jr Posse events with their horses and every single drill team performance. Dad loved life and was always up for anything. He loved to travel and experience everything.

Dad loved the gospel and happily served in many callings. He was very involved in and loved the scouting program. He had a beautiful voice and sang for many years with the Weber Valley Men of Song. He loved music and was an accomplished pianist.

Bert is survived by his wife, Lauren of Pleasant View; four daughters, Marci L Story, Ogden; Machel (Terry) Hales, Farr West; Jill Butters, Weston, Missouri; and Susan (Ty) Kendall, North Ogden; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are his three sisters, Barbara (Ken) Smith, Sandy; Linda (Dennis) Cragun, Twin Falls ID; and Jenette (Lynn) Maycock, Pleasant View.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Shanna L Butters; son, Scott A Butters; father and mother, Albert F and Genevie Butters Sr; son-in-law, Tim Maycock and his sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Raymond Earl.

As we say goodbye for now, we hope to honor our father by living a life that reflects his values, of love, compassion, and selflessness. We are confident that he is watching over us now, and his memory will always be at the core of our hearts. Thank you, Dad, for everything you did for us.
