Albert Emmett Held

February 16, 1932 ~ January 10, 2014

Albert Emmett Held, born on February 16, 1932, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014, due to complications of diabetes.  A veteran of the Korean War, Albert served his country faithfully in the South Pacific from 1950 to 1954 as a Naval Air Traffic Controller.  Upon his return he continued his national service in the Federal Aviation Administration at Hill Air Force Base, until his retirement.  Never one to be idle, he subsequently took his talent to University Hospital, where he worked as a dispatcher for the AirMed group, assisting them in their life-saving efforts for many years.  Albert was interested in model cars, flight, golfing and enjoyed getting together with “The Squadron” on a weekly basis.

Albert leaves behind two brothers, Melville Booth “Tom” (Ernie) Held, Jr. and Roland (Sandy) Held; two daughters, Lesa (David) Hales and Trena Held; two stepsons, Craig Chantilas and Scott (Sandra) Chantilas; five grandchildren, Heidi (Josh) Nilson, Tracy Torghele, Christopher (Meagan) Hales, Cari McLaughlin, and Kati Held; and four great-grandchildren, Max, Mika, Hayden and Mitt.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Gayla A. Held Seward (who bore him two children); his second wife, Carol Marie Held; and a great-grandson, Ty Jeffrey Torghele.

At Albert’s request there will be no formal funeral, but a small Graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Farmington City Cemetery, 500 South 200 East, Farmington, Utah.   Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.

Death is not extinguishing the light; it is only putting out the lamp because dawn has come.
