Albert Edward Maybury
Albert Edward Maybury, 93, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.
Al was born in Woodhouse Mill, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England on August 10, 1918. He was the third child of Charles Abraham and Alice Ann Gratton Maybury. As a Master Craftsman he built railroad passenger coaches and after the war, he built double-decker buses and streetcars. During WWII he served in the Royal Air Force and was stationed in Egypt and Italy. After six years, he returned to England and married his sweetheart, Edna Bailey on September 15, 1945. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Edna passed away on March 14, 1981.
In 1947, Al and Edna immigrated to the U.S., settling in the Washington D.C. area, and later relocated to Ogden, Utah where they raised their three children. Al was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in a Branch Presidency in England. He also served as a Sunday School President, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, Ward Missionary, High Priest Group Leader, and Home Teacher.
Al was a fix-it man. If he could not fix it, you threw it away! He was a skilled craftsman, and could build anything out of wood. He repaired any car, plumbing or electrical problem, and repaired any timepiece. He used his skills to help family, friends and even strangers. Al especially loved helping his grandchildren with their school projects. He loved planes, trains and automobiles-particularly trains.
He is survived by his daughters; Barbara (Jim-deceased) Millard, Joan (Greg) Krim, his son; Grant-deceased (Cindy) Maybury, grandchildren; Becky (Dean) Stokes, Michele (Tim) Johnson, Brian (Sher) Millard, Tami (Zach) Ridderhoff, Scott (Brooke) Krim, Dani (Gabe) Neves, Kyle (Cebu) Maybury, Lee Maybury, Christopher Maybury, 12 great-grandchildren, his brother; James (Loueen) Maybury, many loving nieces, nephews and friends, and his special friend, Christine Romero. He was known to many as "Uncle Al."
Al was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; his son, Grant; his grandson, Darin; his son-in-law, Jim; his sisters, Gladys Smith and Edna Thomas.
