Albert King Meekins

August 19, 1939 ~ December 10, 2015

Albert King Meekins (Al), loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend at age 76, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loved ones.

Al was born in North Carolina on August 19, 1939 to William Albert and Annie Irene Meekins.  He graduated from New Bern High School.  Al, at 18 left home, enlisted and served in the United States Air Force.  This eventually led Al to Utah, where he met, fell in love, and married Clara.  From then on the two have been inseparable for 32 years traveling, camping, fishing, reupholstering together.

Al worked at HAFB as an Electronics Integrated Systems Mechanic.  He retired in June 1993.  Al also loved working on his old car for years, eventually having to sell.  Al was amazingly talented and constructive.  If you knew him then he probably worked a project in your home, made a macramé, built doll furniture, made you a sword, hung a swing, fixed your computer, helped you with wiring, fixed your car, etc.  Albert was always there for you if you needed him.  Al never found a house he could not remodel!

Albert is survived by his wife Clara, “I will always be so proud of him, I will love you till the end of time babe.”  His daughter, Sue (John) Bergeron, step-children, Pauline (Rick) Gailey, Kathy (Clay) Mann, Vince (Dilara) Sandoval, sister Ellen Hanson, brother Lawrence Meekins and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Meekins, and sweet sister-in-law, Libby.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, West Point Cemetery.

A special thank you goes out to Rick Gailey and John Bergeron for always being there for Al.  The family wishes to give special thanks to the people from Inspiration Home Care.  We thank you for your kindness and care.
