Albert Frank Rowe
Albert F. Rowe, 85, of Clearfield, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2009 after suffering a stroke.
Born in Whitaker, PA, on March 31, 1924, to Albert E. and Annie (Black Rodger) Rowe. Albert moved with his family to Lynn, MA at an early age. He was educated in the Lynn school systems. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and was awarded the Bronze Star for his participation in the D-Day invasion at Normandy. While on leave in New York, he met and later married Therese M. Dowling. They returned to Lynn to raise a family.
In 1974, Albert and his family moved to Clearfield where he founded New England Submarine Sandwiches which operated for 27 years. He served two terms as President of the Clearfield Chamber of Commerce and was named ‘Outstanding Businessman of the Year’ in 1986. He was a member of the Golden Fleece Masonic Lodge AF&AM in Lynn, MA; Gateway Lodge in Clearfield; the International Order of Odd Fellows; past Pipe Major of the Clan MacPherson Bagpipe Band of Lawrence, MA; and, founder teacher, past Pipe Major and President of the Galloway Highlanders of Clearfield. He remained active with the Galloway Highlanders to the end having attended a performance just last Saturday.
Albert was very active in the Community United Methodist Church of Washington Terrace where he worshipped, volunteered, was a member of several Bible Study Groups and served on the layleadership committee.
Albert is survived by his children, Barbara and her husband Robert Wright of Ogden; Dennis and his wife Cori of Lynn, MA; Frank and his wife Heather of North Andover, MA; Robin Bucks of Ogden, Dennis Bucks of Camp Hill, PA; Robert and his wife Linda of West Haven; Darlene and Scott Bitton of Roy; Ron and his wife Stacy of Clearfield; 17 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; his sisters, Alison Headlee and her husband Robert of Cincinnati, OH; and Eva Lyons of Lynn, MA; and several nieces and nephews. Grandpa and Papa Rowe loved and was loved by many children. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 46 years, Terry, an infant daughter, his brother, John “Jack” Rowe, and his sister, Catherine Fisher.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Community United Methodist Church of Washington Terrace, 163 W. 4800 So. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, So. Ogden.
In lieu of flowers family suggest donations be made to the Community United Methodist Church of Washington Terrace.
