Alexy Ann Hughes Marchant

Alexy Ann Hughes Marchant, 28, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, following an intense and painful 9-month battle with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer).

Alexy was born on April 12, 1996, the youngest of three children, to Ryan and Jane Hughes in Bountiful Utah.

Her father worked for Delta Airlines, which gave Alexy the opportunity to grow up traveling the world with her family. These trips with family were some of her fondest memories.

Alexy was an avid athlete and sports fan. She was a member of her high school tennis team and was a multiple-time intramural pickleball champion while she was a student at Utah State University. She was passionate and vocal about her love for University of Utah and Kansas City Chiefs football and was often clad in the bright red of her beloved Utes and Chiefs.

Alexy attended Bountiful High School where she gained a passion for learning and education. Through her hard work and consequent academic success, she earned a scholarship to Dixie State University in St. George, Utah. Alexy received her associates degree from Dixie State and then chose to spend 4 months in the Dominican Republic where she taught English to local children. She served an 18-month mission to Farmington, New Mexico for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hers was a life of service, and Alexy credited her experiences in the Dominican Republic and New Mexico for teaching her to always look for God’s hand in life and to always remember to look outward not inward.

Upon her return home from her mission in New Mexico, Alexy transferred to Utah State University in Logan, Utah where she obtained her bachelor’s degree. During her time in Logan, Alexy met her future husband, Peyton Marchant. They were married September 4th, 2020, in the Logan, Utah Temple. Alexy and Peyton lived in Wellsville, Utah until Alexy graduated with honors from Utah State University with a degree in Business Education. The couple then moved to Chubbuck, Idaho where they purchased their first home. Alexy accepted a job teaching business and technology at Skyline High School in Idaho Falls. She loved her time as an educator and found the utmost joy in seeing her students’ success. Alexy had the unique gift of seeing the best in anybody, no matter their circumstances, allowing her to create special bonds with her students. After two years of teaching, she began working on a master’s degree in Instructional Design and Technology at Idaho State University where she also accepted a position as the off- campus internship coordinator.

In November of 2023, 27 weeks into her first pregnancy, Alexy received the devastating news that the abdominal pain she was experiencing was not routine, but caused by cancerous masses that were spread throughout her liver. In the following weeks, she would receive the official diagnosis of stage 4 Cholangiocarcinoma, a very rare, aggressive and painful cancer. Alexy showed her true character upon receiving this heartbreaking news, as she put her own comfort and relief secondary to the well-being of her unborn baby. For five weeks, she endured agonizing pain caused by the cancer, treating the pain with nothing more than Tylenol to ensure the safety of her baby.

On December 8th she welcomed her beautiful son Eddy into the world. Alexy once again, showed her strength and determination, starting her first round of chemotherapy just one week after delivering Eddy via C-section.   Alexy’s fight against the disease raging inside her was not an easy one. Rarely during the battle did she receive good news, but she never failed to smile and comfort those around her. Alexy truly always looked outward instead of inward. She was a true ambassador of hope, constantly acknowledging the everyday miracles in her life and offering peace to all around her.

Alexy had an unwavering testimony in the love of our Heavenly Father and in the atonement of her Savior Jesus Christ. She truly lived by the Savior’s admonition to love one another as He has loved us. Alexy loved and served all those with whom she came in contact, regardless of their station in life. She genuinely cared about the feelings of those around her and was fiercely devoted to her family and her Savior.

Alexy is survived by her husband, Peyton; son, Eddy; father, Ryan Hughes; mother, Jane Callister Hughes; brother, Michael Hughes (Chandler) and sister, Sarah Lundin (Matt). Alexy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Louis and Ellen Callister, and her uncle, Eddy Callister.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 6th and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 7th at the North Canyon Stake Center, 965 East Oakwood Drive, Bountiful, Utah. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 7th at the same location. Interment will be at the Wellsville Cemetery, 400 N 200 East, Wellsville, Utah.
