Alfred Raymond Pears
1935 – 2016
Alfred Raymond Pears, of Kaysville, Utah passed away December 8, 2016. Alfred was born June 2, 1935 in Grays, Essex, England to Norman Charles and Margaretta Irene Alice Luck Pears. He attended school in England. He served in the Royal Air Force before coming to the United States in 1968. He trained as an electrician. He worked for General Electric and the Union Pacific Railroad.
He retired from the railroad in 1998. After retirement he worked as a custodian at the Five Points Mall in Bountiful, Utah.
Alfred married Carol McDermott on March 21, 1969 in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they have six children: Norman (Rebecca), Raymond, Andrea (Michael) Melot, Keith (Rachel), Jessica, and Elizabeth (John) Evans. He was the proud “pop-pop” of fifteen grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
Alfred was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served with his wife in the Bountiful LDS temple. He was an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts and earned several awards including the Silver Wolf and Silver Beaver. He enjoyed his daily crossword puzzle, was a voracious reader, and loved watching old westerns and Jeopardy. He loved music and poetry and passed that love onto his posterity. He also loved all animals.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents and baby brother Leslie Gilbert Pears. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his sister Mary (Alan) Fuller of Corringham, Essex, England.
He will be dearly missed by numerous family and friends on both sides of “the pond”.
Funeral services will be held Thursday December 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kaysville Tabernacle, 198 West Center Street. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m at Kaysville Lindquist’s Mortuary, 400 N Main St and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Tabernacle.
