 Alice Randall Cawley

 January 10, 1921 ~ December 1, 2014

Our beloved grandmother, mother, and sister Alice Ezma Randall Thorsted Cawley passed away on December 1, 2014. Alice was born on January 10, 1921 to Alice Newell Randall and James Walter Randall in Worland, Wyoming. Alice attended Utah State for a degree in music, with roles in three operas. She was married and sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple to Leroy Harold Thorsted, and raised their three children. She worked for Ogden School District’s Home and Hospital, teaching children who couldn’t attend school. She received a Masters of Science in Child and Family Development from Utah State; her thesis explored her work with pregnant teenage girls during her time as an in-home teacher. An active community member even into her 90’s, Alice was president or held leading roles in Chareya, Altruist, and Daughters of Utah Pioneers. After several years’ careful research, Alice successfully traced an ancestor who served in the Revolution, which allowed her and her family membership to Daughters of the American Revolution.

Alice was bright, intellectually sharp, well-read, a talented musician, funny, and an incredible matriarch. Not only was she well loved, but she was well liked by her children and grandchildren. Her advice, interest, and compassion were an important ingredient in their lives. Her community thought the world of her, and she was well known as being witty and deeply kind.

She is survived by daughters, Alison (Jerry) Wilhelmi and Laney Lamie; daughter-in-law, Eddie; sister, Karleen (Don) Sabey; granddaughters, Danielle, Emily, Lauren, and Katie (Ricky); grandson, Christopher; and great-grandson, Ethan. She is preceded in death by her son, James Randall Thorsted; granddaughter, Noelle; and brother, James.

The family would like to thank Belinda and Angel of Inspiration Hospice for their kind and loving care in Alice’s last days.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
