Alice Chelemes

Alice Lambrose Chelemes, December 7, 1923

Alice Lambrose Chelemes, 93, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2017, at the McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah.  Born December 7, 1923, in Salt Lake City, Utah, she was the first child of John and Katina Lambrose.  She was raised on a dairy farm in Cache Valley, Utah, where she learned the value of hard work.   She graduated from North Cache High School and later attended business school.  Alice held various jobs, including positions at Hill Air Force Base.  Her most rewarding job was her time spent as a Jobs Placement Counselor.

In 1944, she married Sam J. Chelemes.  They had four children and later divorced.

Alice loved gardening.  It tickled people, especially her children, that she could start a rose bush from a cutting, as well as apricot trees from their pits. Being of Greek descent, her children especially loved her Greek cooking and baking.  Yasou Momma!

She actively volunteered in various organizations - Eastern Star, American Business Women’s Association, and Beta Sigma Phi.  She enjoyed her time as a Pink Lady and all the activities at the Clearfield Senior Center.  Alice often said her favorite activities were ballroom and square dancing.

Her creative talents included crocheting, painting, sewing and ceramics for her friends and family members. Her acrylic and oil paintings received many Davis County Fair awards that included several blue ribbons.

Surviving are her four children: Darlene Godfrey (Thomas) Centerville, Georgia; Kathleen Bonshire (William), Snellville, Georgia; James Chelemes (Linda), Clinton, Utah; and Juli Christensen, Clearfield, Utah.  Alice’s grandchildren are: Thomas Godfrey, Christine Schnackenberg, Melissa Ford, Jeffrey Christensen, and Lexcie Potter.  Alice’s great-grandchildren are: Thomas and Margaux Godfrey; Katrina and Sophia Schnackenberg; Catherine, Ansley, and Jackson Ford; Kazden, Cahtaya, and Calista Christensen; and Savannah and Arianna Potter.

She is also survived by her sister Tina Barkley, and sister-in-laws June Lambrose and Fros Lambrose, as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Louie, Chris, Bill, Gus, and sister Elayne.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Clearfield Community Church, at 525 East 200 South, Clearfield, Utah.  All family members are invited to attend a private prayer service at 1:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall.  Interment will be at the Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah.

Alice lived the majority of her life in Clearfield, and thanks to friends and neighbors; she lived independently until she was 90.  As her health failed, she chose Rocky Mountain Care, Clearfield, to be her new home.  Her family especially would like to thank the entire staff, nurses, and CNAs for their dedication and loving care.  They called Mom the “Hat Lady” and she called them her angels.
