Alice Hubenthal

(Alice) Jean (Eliason) Hubenthal

LAYTON - On Wednesday, June 21, 2017, Alice Jean Hubenthal completed her earthly mission, having served faithfully and enduring to the end. Born to Andrew Leroy Eliason and Erma Alice Christensen, on August 16, 1929 in Logan, Utah, she answered the call of service many times in life.

After graduating from Logan High and working at Hill AFB, she was called, in original fashion, to serve in the Western Canada Mission. Upon her release she took employment in the LDS Genealogical Library. While there, she was introduced to her love and eternal companion, through mutual associations across the continent, (sans internet). After a brief correspondence and courtship and exercising great faith and courage, she left her Utah home and started a family in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, marrying in the Salt Lake Temple (February 25, 1966). After helping grow the church among the rolling hills of Pennsylvania, she brought her family back to Utah, following the pioneer spirit amid trying adventures, arriving in the promised valley on July 24, 1984.

Throughout her life she was the epitome of service, sharing her time and talents as a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Beaver County Association for the Blind, distinguishing herself in fundraising for Pennies by the Inch, and resuming service with the Genealogical Library. She and her husband enjoyed reading the Church News, listening to Music and the Spoken Word, serving in the Ogden Temple and were avid missionaries, opening their door and their hearts to all comers.

Those who knew her will miss her warm smile and endearing spirit. She was ever gracious and delighted to keep company with her friends and family, and to welcome the Aaronic Priesthood in bringing her the sacrament each week. She was ever attentive to the needs of others, which included sharing her handiwork and garden produce, and she happened to make the best rhubarb pie in the nation.

Surviving are her daughter and two sons, Heidi Ruth Hubenthal, Paul Robert Hubenthal and John Robert Hubenthal (Suzy); and two grandchildren, Bryce and Courtney. Also surviving are her sisters Erma Faye Stoddard and Myrna Tudor and many beloved nieces andnephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ralph Hubenthal, brother Roy Val Eliason, half-brother Ivan Eliason and her parents.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 26, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Holmes Creek Stake Center, 125 Chapel Street, with Bishop Randy Krum officiating.  Friends may visit family at the Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. t the church.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden.
