Alice Whitesides Johnson
LAYTON - Alice Whitesides Johnson, 92, a lifetime resident of Layton, passed away Friday, February 22, 2008, of causes incident to age. She was born March 21, 1915 in Layton, Utah; the eighth child of ten children born to William Wilford and Mary Alice Adams Whitesides.
Alice graduated from Davis High School in 1933. She then attended Utah State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1958. She continued her work as a graduate student through 1966.
She was an elementary school teacher in Davis County, teaching for over 37 years. She taught at Layton Elementary and Whitesides Elementary Schools.
On February 21, 1941, Alice married Forest S. Johnson in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 27 years before he passed away on June 14, 1968.
Alice considered herself first and foremost, a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, sister, aunt, and friend. Her greatest joy, and love in life, was being surrounded by family and friends. She was known for her quick wit and great sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Alice loved the outdoors, and especially loved working in her large yard and tending to her beautiful flowers every year. She also liked to read and wrote wonderful stories about her childhood and her family.
Alice was an active and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many positions in both Ward, Stake Sunday School, and Mutual organizations.
She is survived by her son Jeffrey (Vinita) Johnson, Phoenix, AZ, and her daughter Catherine Sessions, Layton; also, extended daughter Linda (Jim) Duncan, Layton.; six grandchildren, Christopher (Becky) Sessions, Tyler (Jennifer) Sessions, Sam Sessions, Suzanne (Frank) Matthews, Jason (Kimberlee) Johnson, Troy (Marni) Johnson; 13 great-grandchildren, Matthew Sessions, Jake Sessions, Jacee Sessions, Ethan Sessions, Jayden Jones, Ashlynd Sessions, Allison Matthews, Jade Matthews, Tyler Matthews, Taelor Johnson, Nathan Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Taeler Hagee; and one great-great-grandchild, Taylor Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Whitesides, her husband Forest; and her brothers Carl, Wilford, Zulon, Ferris, Maine, Joe and William, and her sisters, Ethel and Mary.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. Friends may call Tuesday from 6:00 to8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m.
Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Shauna Dorrity and her staff at Apple Village Assisted Living for the loving care and assistance provided to Alice for the last 1 A½ years. In addition, the family would also like to thank the Caregiver Support Network for their on going devotion and care, with special thanks to Pilar (Pierre), Terra, Jolene, and Tiersa. A special thank you to her niece Elizabeth Major for the wonderful haircuts she provided for Alice.
