Alice Burton Rampton
Cherished wife, mother and grandmother, Alice C. Burton Rampton died at her home of complications due to heart failure December 22, 2010.
Alice was born September 3, 1922 in Kaysville to Hubert Charles and Millie Alice Criddle Burton. She attended the Kaysville Elementary School and graduated from Davis High School. She attended the University of Utah and affiliated with the Chi Omega Sorority. In her later years, she attended Weber State University.
Alice married Jack Adams Rampton in the Salt Lake Temple, June 25, 1942. The couple moved to California where Jack graduated from the University of Southern California Dental School. During WWII, Alice worked in a munitions factory.
She was an active member of the LDS church and held many positions including Visiting teacher, Primary teacher, Young Women''s teacher, Primary President, and Relief Society President. Alice loved beauty and the arts; she was a long-standing member of the Kaysville Art Club.
Mother''s main focus in life was her family and she was never happier than when we gathered in her home to celebrate festive occasions. Her home was a place of refuge, nourishment and unconditional love. She nurtured students, people from foreign cultures, struggling newly-weds, and a procession of people in need well beyond her immediate family. She offered support and encouragement to individuals who spent weeks to years in her home and many of them call her "Mom" today. An unparalleled cook and immaculate homemaker, she was at the center of uncounted gatherings of friends and family where there was marvelous food and lively conversation.
Alice was proud of her pioneer roots; each of her four grandparents, the Burtons, Criddles, Dawsons and Stewarts arrived in this valley in the 1850s. Alice was born and died in the home that she loved. Alice is survived by her children: Jack B. Rampton (Itha), Salt Lake City; Clark B. Rampton (Sherrie), Kaysville; Brooke (Mrs. Hal Anderson), Farmington; Shawn (Mrs. William Perkins), Norco, California; and brother, Stewart Dawson Burton, St. George. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; son, Robert; and brother, Dr. Hubert C. Burton. She has 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
