Alice I. Sala

Alice I. Sala, 90, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013. She was born October 21, 1922 in Pine River, Minnesota to John and Grace Thayer Brand and moved to South Dakota in 1924. She graduated from high school in Deadwood, SD in 1940.

She worked as a telephone operator, met and married Vernon Sala in 1942 in Denver, CO. They were stationed at Lowry Field in the Air Force. They spent 20 years in the Air Force traveling from North Carolina to Japan and back. After retiring in 1962, they moved to Rapid City, SD. In 1966 they moved to Clearfield, UT where she worked for the Civil Service for 12 years.

Alice joined the Order of the Eastern Star in Carbondale, Kansas in 1953 and held many offices over the years. She was organist at Beth-Araba in Clearfield for 12 years. She joined the Clearfield Community Church in 1970, was active in Martha Circle, and played for Sunday School for many years. She was in charge of Rocky Mountain Care Center church service every Friday morning.

She is survived by her children: Joyce (Norman) Medow, TX; Joann (Clarence) Flath, WI; Roger Sala, WY; Robert (Gloria) Sala, WY; June Martinez, NM; and her brother Thayer (Lillian) Brand, IN. Preceded in death by an infant brother and her husband.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. where friends may visit with family from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Clearfield City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Martha Circle at the Clearfield Community Church.
