ALICIA “MALY” CASTELLANOS (VELEZ)
January 25, 1930 – January 30, 2017

Maly passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on January 30, 2017. We will miss her deeply. She was born in Barranquilla, Colombia and lived in Bogotá until she was 54 years old.  She moved to the United States in 1985 and later became a U.S. citizen. One of her favorite sayings was, “Dreams come true.”

As a pioneer of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Colombia, she exemplified the love for the Savior through her leadership, love for the members, and missionary work.

Maly worked at the Washington D.C. Temple for ten years. After she retired at the age of 65, she devoted her time and talents to family history and to capturing the memories of her life through the creation of memory books.  This legacy she left to her descendants in more than 30 memory books.  She also loved to read the scriptures, uplifting books and watch the news.

Maly is survived by her children Margo Velez-Lemmerman, Alvaro Velez, Martha Belinda Frampton, Liliam Casey and Jaime Velez; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her son Hernando Velez, her parents Augusto Castellanos and Maria Concepcion Orozco, brothers Pio, Augusto, Vladimiro, and Edgardo; and her sister Ana Felicia.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at the LDS Church on 11420 South 700 West, Draper, UT 84020.   Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm.  Interment, Holladay Memorial Cemetery, 4900 South Memory Ln, Holladay, UT 84117.  Arrangements under the care of Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary.

Maly lived a joyous life and saw the fulfillment of many of her dreams.
We love you and we will miss you!  You will always be in our hearts!
